1/ I'm taking a break from #COVID19 infographics and my planned #VirtualTeaching thread this week to provide some concrete #MedEd recommendations for things that all of us can DO to create equal opportunities for black trainees and faculty.
2/ #DEI is the bare minimum. As white faculty, fellows, residents, and students, we are privileged and need to speak up to ADVANCE black individuals.
3/ Here is one concrete recommendation today (which hopefully is already a part of ALL programs who interview students, residents, fellows, and faculty):
✅Require all interviewers to complete implicit bias training.
4/ This article in @AcadMedJournal by @DrQuinnCapers4 demonstrated that implicit bias training intervention led to:
1. Faculty recognizing their bias and considering it during interviews
2. The most diverse incoming class at OSUCOM the following year

5/ There are many additional things that need to be fixed in #MedEd. This is a small, simple step.
If your organization or program isn't already doing this, please start. And my fellow white colleagues - speak up and advocate for this.
