NYC Council stated meeting on the budget is finally on. Watching live: council.nyc.gov/livestream/

Unrelated, the St. Louis khakis-no-shoes-AR15 guy is telling Chris Cuomo he was a victim of terrorism. What a time to be alive.

Meanwhile, @Macys just launched a mortar attack on Brooklyn maybe. It's loud out there. Hide your kids, hide your dogs, hide your veterans.

"I did my best," says Speaker Johnson. "We fought like hell" against a mayor who wouldn't budge on #NYPD regulation & cutbacks. Says state action is needed. This isn't inspiring.

.@JoeBorelliNYC wearing Joe Borelli on the red carpet this evening.

.@NYCCouncil38 points out lack of public debate & constituent input on this budget. Only one virtual hearing in May & public frustrated by not being heard.

Military spouse @alickasamuel makes a nuanced argument for funding the needs of her Brooklyn district, including many women of color working in #NYPD school security. Statements like these make these meetings worth watching.

Quick break from watching the Council's budget meeting to catch @PaulRieckhoff speak truth on Cuomo. Big night here in Ft Greene!

These statements make clear how bad the budget situation has been, and how horrible @NYCMayor's proposals have been. We know times are tough, but all of us watching know this city deserves far better than the budget we'll be getting.

.@bradlander points out hiring freeze on teachers & many essential positions but not #NYPD + no meaningful reduction of force size. It's striking how untouched #NYPD is after weeks of widespread misconduct, even after all this "hard work" being cited.

.@NYCCouncil38 says "Our best is not enough" on tonight's budget + inspirational words about how our city's future leaders have been out in the streets these past weeks. Agreed. #ilovebrooklyn

Several council members deriding constituent calls for reforms as just "hashtags." This, following weeks of mass civic engagement. Too many NYC electeds rely on unengaged electorate & it really shows tonight.

Impassioned speech by @MarkTreyger718 on how de Blasio proposed cutting social workers & vital programs for schoolkids which were partially preserved in this budget. All these statements should underscore how bad a deal @NYCMayor has presented in this crisis.

Love that #OccupyCityHall is watching live:

.@JimmyVanBramer reminds us that effective advocacy is "impolite" & disrupts ppl in power, remembering ACT UP & other vital movements. He also made powerful statements during the Finance Committee meeting just prior to stated meeting.

If you didn't like how your council member voted tonight, vote accordingly in the 2021 NYC primary. Better yet, plan to run. Nearly half of council seats will be vacant. But a bunch of these folks will run for other offices. Will you give them a free pass? #gotv #nycvotes

Aannd all of this ends with confusion about what time it is and what the date actually is. #hardwork
