1/ About that title and book cover.
I had been thinking about a name for the last two years.
Didn't want to call it financial modeling for founders.
It isn't so much about modeling as it is about answering awkward questions with simple analysis.
Sort of like a puzzle
2/ Hence "Founder Puzzles"
Problems that stumped me as a founder and others I worked with.
Things that we think about and try and solve for in #Excel
Some modeling required.
#FounderPuzzles #startups #founders #finance #modeling
3/ Founder Puzzles is one founder's look at our journey.
As we try and estimate market sizes, model revenues, debate product vs services or figure out valuations and terms sheets.
Bring your laptops. Bring your thinking hats.
4/ The cover I wanted was a puzzle.
Not an ordinary puzzle.
A puzzle made of images.
Each image a story. Each story a connection with my readers.
Something we could solve together.
5/ I will tell you a story every day from the book cover.
Till we run out of frames. Here is the first frame that made it.
Remember not the cover, just one frame from the cover.
Can you guess what this is?
What is the story?
Where is the connection?
What do you think?
6/ A close up of the tartan track at NCC in #Karachi.
I have chased seconds for 30 years on this 400m loop.
But I have built spreadsheets for more years than I have run on tartan or roads.
My kids picked up where I left and went farther than I ever could.
Incredibly far
7/ You have seen the references to running in my writing and my threads.
Connecting startups and founder mindset with running 10k's and halfs.
This track is the source.
This is the connection.
8/ There are also connections within connections.
The #startup #ecosystem came of age as I struggled to finish this book.
Without questions I answered and teams I mentored there wouldn't be a book.
We couldn't dream of $10 million term sheets when we started.
9/ The personal private connection.
The other story.
My eldest shot it. As he struggled with running injuries between training, classes, exams and growing up.
It wasn't just the startup ecosystem that grew up.
My kids grew up with it.
10/ #Founder Puzzles. The stories behind the cover.
There are 9 frames.
9 images.
9 stories.
This is the first. Bring your thinking hats on.
