I’m outside the LASD station in Compton where protesters demanding justice for #AndresGuardado just had a tense exchange with deputy about a vehicle protesters moved onto the courtyard

The deputy backs up and leaves the group of protesters — about 75 people, far fewer than on June 21 when hundreds marched to the station

Protesters are demanding immediate arrest of LASD Deputy Miguel Vegas for the killing of #AndresGuardado and the resignation of Sheriff Villanueva. Organizer Cliff Smith is w/ Coalition for Community Control Over the Police.

Appearance by #BlackLivesMatter activist Jasmine "Abdullah" Richards who was famously convicted for a “felony lynching” in Pasadena in 2016.

#BLM activist Jasmine "Abdullah" Richards was disappointed by thinning crowds of protesters like in Compton.

“We out here for the mommas. People’s babies are dying. And nobody is saying nothing. Breonna Taylor still hasn’t gotten any justice. We just creating more hashtags.”

Earlier I saw a line of deputies vehicles lined up along the Compton station but so far they’ve stayed away.

Electeds like Jackie Lacey have been repeatedly called out for hurting Black and brown communities. But so was Gov Newsom.

Newsom has “blood on his hands” for reopening too early, says Abel De La Cruz of immigrant rights group By Any Means Necessary out of Santa Ana.

“Wade in the water
Wade in the water
God's gonna trouble the water.”

The parents of sons who’ve been killed by law enforcement have been showing up at rallies for other families now in the club no one wants to join.

Here‘s the family of Alex Flores, who was killed by an LAPD officer in Nov. They want the officer to be held accountable

Protesters led by Jai Hudson take a knee on the scalding hot sidewalk for the children and mothers hurt by police brutality and racism

Protesters have moved to where deputies are standing guard outside the station. The barricade falls—

As you can see a deputy is filming the protesters. We are just yards by where protesters were teargassed and shot at— see Obama mural

“Only one of you have masks!” Protester shouts at deputies— I see about a dozen. An suv just rolled up. Female deputy approaches with riot gun.

About two dozen deputies here now, some just arrived in riot gear. About 35 protesters

“Hey, who of you are friends with Officer Vega?” The deputy who shot #AndresGuardado

The number of deputies facing off with protesters #AndresGuardado who are wearing masks has shot up to 2..out of 21

Protesters forcefully tell deputies to join them in saying #AndresGuardado ‘s name. This is the deputies’ reaction: 🦗

Black protester singles out the one Black deputy: “Who are you serving?”

Tells the Black deputy he wants both their future sons to survive

This 6 yo has been giving deputies the finger for the last minute. His dad says I’m not telling him to do that.

Don’t know if this is a tactical move, but the 4 deputies front and center are women. Protesters continue to shout expletives at stony faces.

Much of protesters’ ire directed at deputy filming them. I wish police filmed every interaction, someone shouts.

He’s relieved by another deputy.

A female Latina deputy takes over filming the protesters... she’s called a race traitor

We are coming to the part of the protest where protesters are peeling off and the deputies are growing in number..to 29

Two protesters have crossed the barricades. A third protester advises them to come back behind them, because there are so few of them now. 20 protesters, 6 of them kids. I count 28 deputies.

Protester carrying “justice delayed is justice denied” inches closer to deputies who avoid making eye contact with him.

More protesters leave, one saying bye with f*ck you pigs!

Two hour face off between deputies and protesters for #AndresGuardado now looks like this. 9 protesters. 2 dozen deputies.

Talked to Max from Hollywood, who said he stepped behind the barricade to accompany a woman who had done so first. Says his duty as a white ally is to use his body to protect fellow protesters. He’s stood with her for over 1/2 hour holding up their signs at deputies.

Both protesters have now stepped back behind the barricade without incident.

The woman who crossed the barricade said her Jewish faith makes her speak up for #AndresGuardado. Her relatives escaped the Holocaust.

Protest breaking up without incident.
