Beshear’s briefing video is up through his Facebook as well as on @WKYT, @LEX18News and others.
We are live tweeting!
A #KYFreedom thread...
The King has approached his podium and is removing his face diaper as we tweet! And we’re off!
Beshear tells us what day it is and reminds us we are experiencing high amounts of cases. Says today “no exception.” Emotionally prepares us for result.
611 new cases reported today
@GovAndyBeshear asks if we can plateau again.
Note: cases haven’t been increasing like he wants to imply.
4.92 positivity rate.
Note: this is definitely selective and manipulated.
Check out this story today from @WKYT as Beshear fearmingers about new cases
wkyt.com/2020/07/23/uk-…
ICU capacity and ventilators still in good position. Says as cases rise they could get overwhelmed.
Reminder: google.com/amp/s/www.wave…
7 new deaths:
49
57
60
64
68
88
89
No mention of underlying conditions 🧐
Beshear says shifts in cases have moved mostly to under 40. Reminds us that anyone can get sick.
20 new deaths in the long term care facilities @GovAndyBeshear’s administration has regulation and oversight over. 1 staffer has died.
Note: expect no details on what he’s doing to stop 67% of all deaths being in those facilities. Just “more testing”
Yep! Moving right on to happy to lucky social media stuff.
Maybe a reporter w/ some stones will choose to press @GovAndyBeshear on why he’s overseeing so many long term care deaths but lecturing the gen public where only 33% of deaths are. Nursing homes = 0.5% of population!
Beshear says all media are wearing masks. Said we could see if camera turned around.
Beshear discussing lighting homes up green. We here at #KYFreedom keep our lights on remembering the lives of the unborn.
Secretary of cabinet for health and family services, Friedlander, takes the podium complete with face mask hanging on one ear.
Says he signed a contract to allow labs to bill cabinet directly for testing in nursing home facilities. Testing every two weeks for staff.
Note: What? Two weeks?? That’s a long gap! No wonder cases continue to spread! Why not require staff to isolate?
This is ridiculous. Millions of dollars for field hospitals, but can’t perhaps provide temporary housing for staff to avoid contact with #Covid_19 and spread??? Think outside the box @GovAndyBeshear!
Questions: @joesonka first
Question is about college students and universities testing after travel from out of state.
Beshear says plan is “in flux”. Wants robust testing but “face limitations”. Keeping harping on cases is southern states (3rd time at least).
Beshear talks about spacing out on college campuses. Dorms, classes, etc. says its a big challenge but can be done.
Beshear asked about name change of @Rupp_Arena. Deflects and refuses to answer. What’s to see UKs statement.
Question about social distancing and weddings and if there are fines.
He says how would they view a wedding if they got people sick.
Reminder of when he made kids question how they’d feel if they killed grandparents.
Question on unemployed and when to get caught up.
@GovAndyBeshear again blames a ho e bit himself: federal govt, old system, but to his credit didn’t mention @MattBevin.
Says EY contract may need extension.
News today from a committee meeting is that EY is merely clearing claims, his administration has to actually still fulfill. There’s some BS at work here on this. More later.
Question about spread of #Covid_19 in kids under five and kid may limit early education more than others
@GovAndyBeshear says study says kids over 10 may spread as much as an adult and under may not as much. “It’s tough” he says. Mentions lack of information.
Question from @LASmithReports about UK reporting a couple dozen cases of false positives
@GovAndyBeshear says that’s the report of a lab. Says that’s 26/30,000. Says there will be issues with a brand new system and brand new virus. Says there will be “issue here & there.”
@StevenStackMD takes the podium wearing a bow tie. Says may not always be the case a test wasn’t completed. Says emails received may cause confusion. “Data has imperfections.”
@TomL_Ky_Today asks about imposing more restrictions
@GovAndyBeshear immediately mentions @WhiteHouse. Says first he will look at is limiting restaurants to 25%, closing bars, and limiting to groups of 10.
“We can’t ignore advice from White House.”
*oozes politician*
Question about @JCPSKY and Fayette Co limiting education to virtual learning.
Beshear points out difference in those districts vs most others. Expects other districts may move start date back.
Says he’s likely to recommend not starting in class learning in early August
Says he wants to see recommendations followed. Calls distancing, masks, etc non-negotiable.
Question on if false positives are in nursing homes.
@GovAndyBeshear says they’ve seen no significant issue.
@GovAndyBeshear calls his response on long term care facilities one of the best in the nation
67% of deaths are there.
Beshear says that today, he wouldn’t ask teachers to go to in class teaching.
*@KYEdAssociation applauded*
Question on if he’ll send national guard to Louisville this weekend re: #BLM and NFAC militia coming to protest for #BreonnaTalyor
@GovAndyBeshear says no National Guard. Says he hopes @kyoag handles case with care
Question about governors concern of long term child care.
Beshear says he is concerned. Says #Covid_19 is mean and ruthless virus. Friedlander coming up for additional comments
Friedlander says he’s 20% of childcare facilities haven’t reopened and group size is limited. Mentioned further discussion on how to proceed. Says they are still very initial discussion.
That can’t bring comfort to parents out there who need to work. SMH
Question on pooled testing (type of Covid 19 test)
@StevenStackMD says only works when positive cases are uncommon, not best when high.
@LASmithReports asks about a UofL study
@GovAndyBeshear says if accurate wit means #Covid_19 is more prominent, and spreads at a faster rate. Says it may knock down overall mortality rate. Thinks more people have it than we know, says mortality rate may be lower than 3%
@TomL_Ky_Today (legend) asks about SCOKY ruling allowing Scott Co Judge to stay on case
@BESHEAR - Says anyone would have raised concern. Says we’ll move beyond it. And (as we expected) says SCOKY will uphold. Agai suggests a loss would end ALL orders. Hyperbole. Not really true
Another question about universities
Beshear says prevention is key, that mass testing would be challenging. Emphasizes rules again.
Our question: Will universities be allowed to maintain tuition costs of students are not getting full experience?
Wrapping up. Beshear says data next week will drive future decisions.
Ends with video of @TomAckermanWx having way too much fun with a free screen and green mask.
END THREAD
*blames all but himself
