What we know. People are:
🍎 Having difficulty getting enough food
🏠 Unable to pay rent or mortgage
🏭 Unemployment is high
🧒 There are millions of kids facing hardship
📈 And overall hardship is trending upward

🍎 About 29M adults — 12.1% of all adults — reported that their household sometimes or often didn’t have enough to eat in the last 7 days. That translates to an estimated 9-17M kids who live in a family in which the kids were not eating enough because the they couldn’t afford it.
🏠 An estimated 14.8M adults who live in rental housing — 1 in 5 adult renters — were behind on rent. Renters who are parents are nearly 2x as likely to be behind on rent compared to adults not living with kids. Some 8M kids lived in a household that was behind on rent.
🏭 The #unemployment rate is currently 10.2% - higher than at any point in the Great Recession.
The majority of jobs lost in the crisis have been in industries that pay low average wages, with the lowest-paying industries accounting 51% of the jobs lost from February to July.
🧒 ~19M kids, or 1 in 4 children, live in a family that isn’t getting enough to eat, is behind on rent or mortgage payments, or both.
These levels of hardship are substantially higher among Black & Latino kids, reflecting longstanding inequities that the crisis has exacerbated.
📈 These hardship points are trending upward. Future hardship trends will depend on several factors, including the incidence of #COVID19, whether the job market rebounds, & the relief measures policymakers put or keep in place.
The extent & severity of continued hardships like hunger, eviction, & homelessness will depend on whether such relief is robust & reaches those in need.
