End of Thretha yuga, Earth was destroyed by 7 seas.Shiva instructed Vinayaka to save this temple at Thiru Purambayam.

Vinayaka of this temple saved this place by diverting water of all 7 seas into this temple’s well.This well is called Saptha Sagara Koobam(7 sea well).
This place was an exception and was not affected by the Pralayam.

Vinayakar in this temple is believed to have been created by Varuna (Rain god)using foam & shells from ocean. No other abhishek is performed to this Vinayakar except on eve of Vinayaka Chathurthi day with honey.All the honey that is poured on this deity gets fully absorbed.
