Indeed. I have seen a side of humanity I wish I did not have to know existed or was that prevalent. Pediatrics is not just handing out stickers and popsicles or looking for purple spotted elephants in ears.

If I am willfully childlike with optimism and naïveté sometimes, it is my survival mechanism to counter the things I have seen done to children. I don’t do cynicism and snarkiness prevalent in the rest of medicine, healthcare #MedTwitter.

And if I am vehemently anti-bully & anti-abuse of trainees/students it is cuz it one space I can assert some control to change culture or enforce protections. Those who use titles of “Professor” or “faculty”, have teaching roles, have power. journalofethics.ama-assn.org/article/bully-…

Abuse and bullying are about power. Abusers seek those they perceive weak - by rank, gender, race, etc - to feel powerful

Children, elderly, pregnant women often targeted

...as are trainees
A continuum

The person abused rarely can speak up or report

We talk of #diversity #inclusion #equity but what we need is (not to put people into boxes of race for tokenism)

be anti-abuse & #antibullying

with same commitment to preventing harm
holding those who harm accountable
as if it were abuse to a child
