1. ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS: Ask as many questions as possible, no matter how stupid u think they are. Questions ranging from where the bp machines are kept to how to perform sepsis protocol etc. If you have not asked up to 10,000 questions like me, please do.
2. OBSERVE WHAT OLDER NURSES ARE DOING: Yes. Just watch what the older nurses are doing, note the pattern and techniques.
3. SEEK ADVICE: when confused or in doubt, seek the advise of your nurse in charge, a senior nurse or your mentor on things that get you confused.
4. LIST THE SKILLS NEEDED, WATCH THEM VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE: It will be nice to note down all the skills relevant to your practice in the ED, watch them on youtube in your spare time and practice them. This is very useful.
5. READ BOOKS AND THE POLICIES: Ensure to read the policies of your work place. This will help you know ypur responsibilities, rights, privileges and all.
