The Day I Found I Was Lost

I.

Halfway to the beach on a sullen afternoon
I turned back.
My throat clotted with tears
as your ghost sailed the granite sea of memory.

I turned back
when the clouds began to weep.
As your ghost sailed the granite sea of memory
I wept too.

When the clouds began to weep
my heretic heart cracked in half.
I wept, too,
as the world kept spinning without you.

My heretic heart cracked in half,
my throat clotted with tears
as the world kept spinning without you
halfway to the beach on a sullen afternoon.

II.

When I returned to the empty shell of home
the Thief of Love was waiting for me.
Dressed in a winding sheet and a sardonic smile,
he opened the door.

The Thief of Love was waiting for me.
Holding nothing but the dead roses of time
he opened the door
as the silence of purgatory wrapped around me like a lover.

Holding nothing but the dead roses of time,
that night I dreamt of you.
As the silence of purgatory wrapped around me like a lover
I knew I was lost.

That night I dreamt of you, ssed in a winding sheet and a sardonic smile.
I knew I was lost
when I returned to the empty shell of home.

Only I could post a #poem and somehow do it with a typo. Thanks to all who read and shared “The Day I Found I Was Lost” I surely was lost last night. #StaySafeBeWell
