The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests a wait for 90 days from the day one tests positive for #COVID19 if he/she has not received the vaccine.

Leading vaccine scientist Dr #GagandeepKang said data from the UK shows there is 80% protection following a natural infection with the #SARSCoV2 virus. It is fine to even wait up to six months, she said.

The second dose can be given eight weeks after the person tests positive for #COVID19 infection, according to Dr V Ravi, nodal officer for genetic confirmation of #SARSCoV2, Karnataka. The body starts producing antibodies after the infection and it is akin to getting a #vaccine.

Scientists are still learning about natural and vaccine-induced #immunity. According to the CDC, it typically takes two weeks for the body to build protection after #vaccination, and hence it is possible to get infected.

There is no need to panic if the second dose is delayed, but do not defer it indefinitely, said Dr Shashank Joshi, member of the Maharashtra #COVID19 task force. For #Covaxin, the gap can be extended up to 45 days & for #Covishield, the second dose can be taken three months.

In a revised set of guidelines, the #HealthMinistry recommended that a #COVID19 patient can discontinue home isolation “after at least 10 days have passed from the onset of symptoms or from the date of sampling of asymptomatic cases” and there is “no fever for three days”.

The Health Ministry also said that one need not undergo a #COVID19 test after the home isolation period is over. However, it is recommended that the patient consults a doctor to ensure he or she follows home isolation correctly.
