So, it’s happened. I got #COVID in #Shanghai. Waiting for CDC now to take me to hospital and @LeaningEmma to central quarantine- our life for the next three weeks ☹️

From this pic at testing you can see I was oblivious 😅

Seems like #Shanghai is battling hard today. Covid positive this morning and still not collected from home (Both me and @LeaningEmma). Told there are a few in front of us. Feel for neighbours now in full 7+7 lockdown.

@LeaningEmma now sent to central quarantine but still no movement from home for me. Assuming a shortage of space in #Shanghai hospitals.

Day3 with #COVID and #Shanghai CDC have still not been able to transport me to hospital, most likely due to lack of space. Hoping that I get a hotel quarantine instead 🤞

Strangely, I’m not appearing on any published list of symptomatic cases, even though it’s been confirmed to us (I’m in Huangpu)

Not even reported today- perhaps they don’t add to the confirmed cases until you are physically admitted to hospital? Makes me wonder how many more positive #COVID19 there are under temporary home quarantine.

Sorting my household waste- double bagged and then sealed in this.

Call from the #Shanghai CDC just now: they will collect me from home on Friday or Saturday (no beds available yet), I must go to hospital regardless of #COVID symptom severity.

On my way to hospital. Community tea cheering ‘jiayo’

First night in #Shanghai #COVID Hospital quarantine - truly awful 😞 1. No running water (shared toilet is now disgusting- no time indicated on a fix) 2. Metal bed with 5mm mattress…

3. No toilet paper or towels 4. Freezing cold 5. Closed in shared room with 3 loud strangers 6. Miss my wife and family 7.

I’m not sure why we are here. The only medical attention indicated (above and beyond what you get in central quarantine) is some optional TCM. Don’t know why I can’t be in a hotel? No one here has any major symptoms. Here’s the advice sheet:

I Cut the video at the end- you don’t want to see the toilet- but with no water, you can imagine. Sink was this dirty when I arrived.

Breakfast in bed

One memorable birthday week 🎉🤦‍♂️. Cards from my @LeaningEmma and parents cheering up the place

Poor chap next to me is shivering under his blanket. Not the easiest way to beat #COVID19. Can’t find the heating.

I’ve been symptomatic this week, but only mild- sore throat mostly. Self prescribed meds will do

❤️

Still not on the list. Haven’t seen medical staff yet- no tests, no meds.

12 hours in and still no running water. I’m not going near that toilet- I can wait 👃👎

The irony of my Patient Number 1 sign is niggling.

Received my first #COVID meds. My roommate, Shi Bin, says ‘Bu Hao Chi!’ He didn’t drink. I think I’ll do the same. Any info on what this is?

Our first temperature checks. All normal. Yep, why are we in a hospital again?

All these new twitter followers will be deeply disappointed when my #COVID experience is over and I go back to tweeting about education, teacher development and bilingual learning 😅 #everythingistemporary

Did somebody shout lunchtime? #HungryMen

Interlude: Twitter at its finest

Was super delicious!

With running water, bathroom now cleaned up. Pretty decent

My British colleague now also been admitted to this hospital with his husband (both no symptoms). No rooms left so they are on beds in the corridor. A nurse said all future inpatients will be in sleeping bags.

Just been moved room. New one is clean and private. May be joined later, but for now, enjoying the peace (and another tasty dinner).

As I walked to new room, noticed lots of spare rooms and beds. I’m told the beds in the corridor is at a different facility to this one.

As promised, extra vitamins provided as part of the treatment through fresh fruit.

Got another roommate in the night- Nice guy. Waiting to hear if more will join later. Also got a decent nights sleep so feeling much fresher.

Different meds today. Anyone able to help with what it is?

Hospital quarantine reading. Thanks for bringing some normality to the week @MaryMyatt and @johntomsett

Latest. My wife, @LeaningEmma has tested positive white at centralised hotel quarantine 😞

Friends nearby

Interested in how the CDC defines symptomless cases? I was put in that camp yet I did have (mild) #COVID-19 symptoms- headache, sore throat, fatigue.

Things are not getting better. Sorry you are going through this @chilshakil

@LeaningEmma is being transported to hospital/Covid+ site now. We haven’t been told where yet 🙏

@LeaningEmma arriving at the #Shanghai Expo centre quarantine site now. Told me it’s packed with people- no instructions or info yet: chaotic.

Follow my wife, @LeaningEmma, for more on her experience in the newly built Expo quarantine site- it’s huge. I am so lucky to be where I am in comparison 😔. Wish I could swap 🙏

The toilet complex

Meanwhile……. Just been given some vitamins. Also told, once I receive two negative test results, I can go back to 7-days home quarantine.

No more complaints from me 🤐 Hang in there Emma ❤️💪🙏

You have to zoom in to truly appreciate the scale of this place
