Dear @GretaThunberg
I've read in Spanish press ur article and I'd like to tell u, with all due respect for ur work in the fight against #ClimateEmergency, that the approach seems to me to be a mistake. If you will allow me, I would like to explain why 👇

eldiario.es/internacional/…

#biomass IS a #renewable #resources
Well managed, it's perfectly #sustainable

Obviously, there r places where things r done badly. For sure.

The situation isn't the same in northern Europe, where u r from, as it's in the south, where I'm from
We've broken the trophic chain...

and it must be recovered, because now, we've we have in many areas of Europe an accumulation of energy due to a lack of herbivores, and a lack of a natural fire regime. Because fire, in a large part of Europe, is part of the natural system

You don't have to take my word for it

I'm just an engineer. Ask Greenpeace Spain or WWF Spain and u'll see

U r intelligent, for me, a reasonable person
And the data contradict ur approach

Look at these 2 trees. One comes from a managed area. The other isn't. Which one generates more benefit to fight Climate Change?

@GretaThunberg, of course, we need to fight #ClimateEmergency. And for that we must prevent the large forest fires that destroy our forests. Sustainably managed forest biomass is essential for this... Burning part of this energy in a controlled manner, is a part of the solution

The 227M hectares of forests in Europe cover 35% of total land area. About 64% r beyond regeneration phase and haven’t yet reached mature phase.
And this area grows every year, but without management, we'll lose it, & we'll have emissions without any positive return for society

Growing stock has increased by 50% since 1990, although this trend is slowing down. Related policy responses focus on increasing forest area, but its funding and competing land uses remain a challenge. European forests are a major carbon sink;

Carbon stock increases in forests and in wood product... but without management, the risk of this resource destruction is real... and no one in their right mind wants this to happen...that's why it's not good to criminalize the sustainable use of forest (and agricultural) biomass

Like u, I love forests. Therefore, I'd like to invite u to assess whether your statements can be qualified, or improved, with respect, scientific knowledge and data.

Please, reconsider your claims, and help us protect our forests. Affectionately, a humble environmental engineer
