2) THE VISION

Imagine a parallel world, in which devices/machines connect & transact. Fully autonomously.

Machine 2 machine (M2M) communication enables this so called 'Economy of Things' (EoT) movement & blockchain plays an essential role in it.

3) THE ECONOMY OF THINGS

What is the difference between IoT & EoT?

EoT goes a lot further than Internet of Things (IoT), in which devices simply connect to each other.

An example of IoT is pre-heating your house before you get home by connecting your phone to your thermostat).

4) An example of EoT is your electric vehicle storing & selling energy at peak demand for you, while charging when there's high supply.

It means physical assets turn into digital assets & a parallel digital world is created:

Enter the metaverse (or multiverse) for business.

5) LOOKING BACK

Well, some may remember my enthousiastic & cryptic thread (with a dab GIF) in February, 5 days before Vodafone announced the Digital Asset Broker (DAB) Platform:



This is the follow-up thread, birthed after 9 months.

6) DAB by VODAFONE

Vodafone has been DABbling in the blockchain space for a while now, working with parties such as R3 @inside_r3, @IBM, @energywebx $EWT & @hedera $HBAR on blockchain solutions.

The most prominent one: the DAB platform.

Why? It is a top 5 business priority.

7) DAB being a top 5 priority to Vodafone Group & its CEO was stated at Cordacon in Sept 2022, full video here:

R3 worked on it with Vodafone, their partnership started 4 years ago. Since last week it's 'fully live'.

8) WHAT DAB DOES

It enables:
- Seamless (automated) vehicle charging/payments
- Immutable financial transactions
- Trusted supply chain monitoring
- Pay per use (asset as a service) business models

9) DAB is about connecting every workflow on the planet by creating digital twins of physical assets & enabling autonomous machine to machine communication.

An essential part of this, besides blockchain, is the role of the SIM (more on this later in this thread).

11) BLOCKCHAIN UTILITY

To summarize, for the DAB platform blockchain can:
- Provide decentralized Digital Identities
- Enable secure machine to machine transactions
- Provide cybersecurity for IoT devices

So what blockchain(s) are used for DAB? ⤵️

12) I already spoiled it a little, but it is R3's Corda & Energy Web (the ones known).

Corda is prominent on the site & goes back 4 years, Energy Web is not (but goes back at least 2-3 years).

However, I would not be Gator if I wouldn't find more than first meets the eye🧐

13) VODAFONE x ENERGY WEB

As most following Energy Web know, the Vodafone & Energy Web partnership goes way back.

The first press release about a cooperation dates May 2020:

It shows the focus on SIM-centric blockchain tech for secure DID management.

14) This is precisely what @Google gave Energy Web a grant for in 2021:

The article states:

"The project will ensure interoperability between systems - including multiple blockchains - with the public Energy Web stack"

One of these is R3's Corda, 100%.

15) Slightly before the grant, in Oct. 2020, R3 (Corda) & Energy Web entered a strategic partnership:

The focus was on integrating Corda with the Energy Web stack.

Vodafone was by then already working with both R3 Corda & Energy Web...

16) Corda's value is in the settlement/smart contract layer & doing this private (fit for businesses & highly regulated sectors).

EWFs value is in DIDs, SSI & asset management.

Together, they form a perfect combo, which led to Vodafone's DAB in Feb:

17) ENERGY WEB'S MULTIVERSE

I believe that being a key player in the enterprise multiverse or metaverse is Energy Web's END GOAL!

EWF's website started hinting at it (see video below), but that was just a part of it.⤵️

18) Walter & Ed did not hide their wish to conquer the metaverse for business either.

DIDs: EWF works on integrating all these DID sources now.

19) This is step 2 that Ed mentioned.

EWF is hard at work with DIDs based on their Decentralized Logic Execution Webinar in September this year, which addresses DID interoperability & other functions:



After that the @gridsingularity DEX comes.

20) We know that the Gridsingularity DEX is going to be a parachain on Energy Web's Relay chain, that is literally on the website.

21) THE STRATEGY

By now, we deviated a bit from Vodafone's DAB solution & EoT.

This was needed to sketch that EWF is setting itself up to become a major enterprise multiverse player.

The next tweets show how I believe EWF strategically positions itself to achieve just that.

22) VODAFONE, KIGEN & KORE

6 days before Vodafone DAB with EWF was announced, EWF announced collaborating with Kigen & Kore to provide secure connectivity using eSIM & OPEN IoT SAFE tech.

This should provide trusted identities for M2M communication:

23) In my eyes, this is not a coincidence.

The MWC 2022 event where the collaboration with EWF was announced showed Vodafone as an IoT partner of Kigen & Vodafone is a known partner of Kore for IoT services. See article + screenshots:

24) CONNECTING THE DOTS

It seems to me, the Kore & Kigen partnership did not come out of nowhere, it was needed for the Vodafone DAB platform. Just like connecting to Corda.

Now: the first beta trial is running in the UK, including @Mastercard as a partner.

25) Steps are also made with Dutch DSO Stedin, as EWF announced they will develop a DID-backed system for them.

Just 1 month after the Kigen, Kore & Vodafone news.

Coincidence? Nope:



The joint solution includes a secure DID via the SIM in each asset 🧐

27) CONCLUSION
It was not hidden that EWF is entering the multiverse, but to me, there was more to it than first met the eye.

Earlier, I stated names on the Relay Chain overview may be future parachains.

Food for thought: every device participating in M2M communication uses energy (green proofs?), every device in M2M requires a DID & an asset management solution.
