When talking about #Ukkal inscriptions, Appa says:
அக்காலத்தில் பல நகரங்களை இணைக்கும் வழி “பெருவழி” என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது.

It is not that we had #highways only after the British rule, such highways existed even in olden days. This was seen around the #Thiruvaṇṇāmalai hills where on both sides stones were installed indicating the distance to be covered till reaching the next town.

There were dots engraved on these stones for people who couldn’t read so they could touch and count thereby knowing the distance to the next town.

பெருவழியில் செல்வோர்க்கும், மாடு ஆடு போன்றவைகளுக்கு குடிப்பதற்காக பெருவழியில் குடி நீர் கிணறுகள் அமைக்கும் பரப்பு பண்டைய வேத காலத்திலிருந்து நம் நாட்டில் இருந்து வந்துள்ளது.
