1. Eliminating the silos of physical and mental health care will make healthcare more holistic.

@TheLancetPsych @ProfAnnJohn @suicideresearch @DaveHendMD @DrLaifChan @UnitedGMH @MondelliValeria @parisamansoori @afspnational @YoungMindsUK @samaritans 2/18 Collaborative care models integrate a range of carers, including primary care providers, mental health staff, social workers and other healthcare professionals working together to provide holistic care.

3/18 Improving training and building capacity in the #MentalHealth workforce is vital, especially in low and middle income countries and other low resource settings.

@WHO @BMCPsychRes @BristolUni @UCLMentalHealth @georgetownsfs @online_his @IndiaSanofi @medarrive @datrigub @MercyShips @PharmAccessNIG 5/18 Comorbidities and multimorbidities are the primary source of early death among those with severe mental illness. Compared with the general population, people with mental illness have more health-related behaviours that put them at greater risk.
#EarlyIntervention is key.

Continued criminal sanctions for suicidal behaviour despite technical decriminalization, as happens for instance in the UK, must be addressed.

We should not be penalising vulnerable people.

7/18 The most important element in successfully tackling stigmas is placing lived and living experience at the center of the implementation.
Messaging and solutions must be fit for purpose and co-designed by the people they impact the most.

This doesn’t just involve education, although that is important. Cash transfer or food subsidy programmes effectively reduce food insecurity, which can have a major impact on #MentalHealth.

Encouraging healthy workplaces, reducing stress, allowing time off to access health services and initiatives such as mental health 1st aiders can keep us all healthy.
