Joey Gibson, leader of right-wing group Patriot Prayer, just held a press conference in Vancouver to call on the left & right to come together, gather 35,000 signatures and recall Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.
This comes a day after Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler announced police encountered members of P.P. atop a downtown parking garage before an Aug. 4 demonstration with firearms, took the guns, told the people to leave and later returned the guns. Bkrd: bit.ly/2QVylPH
No one was arrested because no laws were broken, the mayor’s office said.
Later Monday, Gibson called Wheeler a liar during a Facebook Live stream and said the mayor mischaracterized the encounter w/ police by suggesting Patriot Prayer members were positioned atop the parking garage as snipers: bit.ly/2AeRff0
The mayor, police elaborated earlier today that officers found 4 men w/ 3 unloaded rifles and all 4 had concealed weapons permits. The men were told store the guns and ammo in separate parts of their truck and they were allowed to leave with the firearms: bit.ly/2yJsCoH
The mayor also announced Monday that he is advocating for a new city ordinance to give authority to determine the length, location and manner of protests by groups w/ history of violence breaking out during demonstrations.

Gibson, a Washington resident, today again called the Portland mayor a liar, said he wouldn’t lead the signature gathering but would participate in the process & get other ppl involved.
Gibson said he is invested in seeing Wheeler removed from office because he believes Wheeler has been “attacking” him since last year and claims Wheeler “isn’t a leader of the people.”
Here’s Gibson explaining how he viewed Mayor Wheeler’s press conference yesterday.
Gibson accuses the Portland mayor of lying to the public for political gain, says the rally on Sunday was to advocate for Wheeler being removed from office.
Here’s where Gibson calls for a recall of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler.
One more clip. Here Gibson says he’s taking a “wait and see” approach to how to organize future protests if the proposed city ordinance the mayor spoke of yesterday passes.
As of today, at least 35,925 valid signatures from Portland registered voters would need to be collected in 90 days for a recall to head to voters. Gibson lives in Vancouver, Washington. bit.ly/2AdMqCy
I just noticed I kept saying the latest Patriot Prayer demonstration in Portland was on Sunday. That’s wrong, it was Saturday.
