Last night, we got the latest status report in the Ms. L family separations class action: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5730… It's the first one since December, since the proceedings were put on hold during the government shutdown. Here are the current reunification numbers:
The total number of children of potential class members (aka separated kids) is higher – from 2,667 to 2,816 – reflecting the re-classification of 149 kids who were released to sponsors, which the govt had noted was happening in the December report
The number of separated kids in government custody who the govt deems eligible for reunification with a parent went down since the December report, from 8 to 6
The ACLU says the govt hasn't provided info about whether the 149 kids released to sponsors who were added to the total tally had parents removed from the US (the ACLU has been tracking down parents abroad to see if they want to reunify)
Another key set of numbers: The outcome of credible fear interviews for separated parents and kids going through the asylum process per procedures agreed to via settlement – of decisions to date, all are positive credible/reasonable fear findings
