Man do I and a lot of people back here in Detroit miss Eddie... RIP old buddy...
Eddie was a good friend and jamming buddy, in Detroit back in the day; and one of the nicest guys I knew, always upbeat and funny - and one of the best keyboard players ever!

We first met at Sully's when Eddie was playing keys with James Cotton. We talked about Eddie possibly doing some recording with Larry McCray [†]; but Eddie instead became involved with Albert Collins' recording "Iceman" (Point Bank/Virgin 1991).

I remember a funny story... Eddie called me one day and asked me: "Hey John, have you ever heard of the Black Crowes?" I said: "Sure, those guys are very cool; they're turning on the younger crowd to real roots-based music. Why?"

Eddie said: "Well, Chuck Leavell [Allman Brothers; Rolling Stones] did the keys on their album ["Shake Your Money Maker" 1990], and told them: 'You know I can't tour with you guys; but I know just the guy to do the gig' and he told them about me.

And they said: 'What does he look like?' and Chuck said: 'Don't worry, he looks just like you guys.' Too funny, how cool is that! What do you think?"

And I said, "Well you're working on Albert Collins' project now; but to be honest, as much as I love Albert, these kids will sell way more records than Albert. Besides, you know Albert will end up pulling in his buddies to do the touring. I think you should do it."

[†] I put Larry McCray on a European tour with Gary Moore, back in the 90s when I managed & recorded Larry with Bobby Hankins & David Robinson for Virgin Records; as Bobby and I, along with John Wooler had started the blues label Pointblank Records out of Virgin Records London.

In this Point Blank project Bobby and I got John Wooler to sign Larry McCray along with a roster I setup which included: Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter, and the Kinsey Report.
