What are Arabic-speaking Muslims saying about the fire (and possible arson) in Notre Dame Cathedral? This guy expresses his hopes that the French will soon cry over the Arc de Triomphe as well.

This guy quotes the anti-Christian surah al-maa'idah, verse 73, which denigrates the 'blasphemous' Christians and promises that they will receive punishment. Here's the verse: quran.com/5/73

This guy celebrates by saying "hallelujah" or in Arabic "subhan allah" because the 800 year old church is collapsing so fast

What appears to be a Kuwaiti user in London suggests that the fire was committed by naturalized immigrants, and calls for her countrymen to avoid changing their demographics through immigration. This is ironic because I expect to see French getting called racist for this

This user expresses sadness for Notre Dame - which on the other hand, he refers to as cursed and wicked because of supposed French actions in Syria

Side note - apparently people are celebrating even more on Facebook, but I'll stick to Twitter for now

Now some in English; let's look at what 'Western' Muslims are saying

I have to go catch a flight, but for everyone who has read this far I want to make a few things clear.

- The number of actual religious Muslims in MENA countries celebrating this disaster is insignificant in comparison to the number of secular, non-hijab wearing immigrant kids

- Yes, the Qur'an says terrible, evil things about Christians - but our bible says things that the Jews perceive to be terrible, and we have nonetheless been able to get along for the most part. We must absolutely respond to these attacks, but we cannot overreach

- The best way to respond to these attacks on our faith and our civilization right now is a show of strength. Turn up to mass. Pray the rosary just once, even if you're not Catholic (I'm Orthodox). Show them that we have something worth fighting for, and minds can be changed
