The above graph tracks federal govt revenue (after “under recovery”), but also important to remember that a whole lot of revenue in #Nigeria is not available for federal use (due to state/LG allocations and whatnot).

Here are some charts from our compilation of revenue data per Nigeria’s budget implementation reports. All showing the same thing - non-oil revenue collection has always been very weak. Low oil prices just accentuated the revenue problem.
Nigeria’s revenue crisis, pt II: here is 2019 revenue for key African markets along with ext debt stock. Nigeria’s *federal govt* (not total federation) rev was less than Kenya’s despite having 4x bigger economy. Nearly 6x less revenue than SA’s which has more comparable economy.
Corporate and income taxes are comparable across these jurisdictions, difference is tax administration and compliance.
Post-Covid-19, time to crack the whip on tax evaders. Start with the rich - zero in and force folks to show rax returns to access banking services, fx, etc.
