Here's Guess Who I Am, #7. This inventor of the inverted microscope and greenskeeper of famous fetal tissue saved millions of lives but was unappreciated and absconded to California, with lawyers in tow. Though he has no limit, he discovered ours. #longevity Image
Clearly this was too easy. Now for a hard one...
Leonard Hayflick is a true pioneer, both in the field of aging science and also in his attempts to make this field of science accessible to the public.
His 1994 book, "How and Why We Age," was one of the first attempts to shift the conventional "thinking" about aging.
"Um, David, why did you just put 'thinking' in quotes?"
"Because there wasn't much thinking, conventional or otherwise, being done on aging 25 years ago — Hayflick sought to change that."
A quarter century later, though, most people still think of aging as something that is inevitable for all living things. It's not.
So now I'm trying to change that mindset — to get people to consider (even if they ultimately decide they don't agree) the evidence that aging might not be so inexorable as we have been led to believe. And, in fact, it might be possible to slow, stop and reverse it.
Will I succeed in this quest? I'm not sure. But I'm going to give it my all!
