Who am I? I am no dummy, with a PhD in math and a doctor of science in biostatistics. I am best known for figuring out aging isn't random. If I get hold of some of your DNA, I can tell you how many years you have left to live. #longevity #clocks lifespanbook.com Image
Steve Horvath is, of course, most well known for his work on how DNA methylation can be used to measure aging, also known as the Horvath Clock.
Horvath isn't the only person to connect methylation to aging. His findings have been aligned to discoveries made by Trey Ideker and Kang Zhang, but Steve's work has been seminal, and his name stuck.
We tend to think of aging as something that begins happening to us at midlife, but Horvath’s clock begins ticking the moment we are born.
The DNA methylation clock may not just be an indicator of age. It could be a controller of it — not so much a wristwatch as time itself.
Can we use the information we have about the Horvath Clock to help us understand how to slow down the process of aging? Stop it? Reverse it? I think it's likely.
But—and pardon the pun—only time will tell.
