2/ Mariee at 19mos and her mom entered the US along our Mexico border on March 1 2018, and were transferred to Dilley FOUR days later…
Not THREE as legally mandated.
They were put in a cell with 5 other mothers and their kids, some of whom were sick. Especially one little boy.
3/ By March 11, 2018 — under a week after being imprisoned in a Dilley camp cell — Mariee had an “acute upper respiratory infection,” diagnosed by a physician’s assistant at Dilley.
She had a fever over 104°F that would not come down.
She could not keep down medication or food.
She lost 2 pounds by March 15th: over 8% of her body mass.
Mariee’s mother BEGGED OVER AND OVER for a doctor for her little girl. 💔
5/ "’Nobody at any time decided to actually have a pediatrician or a doctor see the child,’ said Benard Dreyer, director of pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, and past president of American Academy of Pediatrics.”
During near-record lows of immigrants crossing our border.
Yet culture of neglect — INDIFFERENCE — is SO INGRAINED in CBP/ICE that even when this baby was vomiting with diarrhea and 104°F fever, her mom was STILL refused a doctor for her.

President* Trump’s lethal neglect is unlikely to change for two reasons:
🔹 Increased overcrowding because of unnecessary detention
🔹 Growing anger toward a vulnerable scapegoated population by Trumpists

18/ Rep @AOC brings it home with pertinent questions, getting to the crux:
What's wrong at our border is NOT a matter of funding & resources but rather a “CULTURE OF CRUELTY” AND DISREGARD FOR HUMAN RIGHTS of migrants and refugees.

@RachelBitecofer “Trump’s legal theory is that presidents are entitled to absolute immunity for official acts. Under this theory a sitting president could violate the law with impunity.” @AdamSerwer
@Acyn @RepRaskin “Trump’s lawyer argued that as president* he could order the assassination of rivals and face no prosecution unless he’s impeached and convicted. But of course he could just kill or threaten to kill Members of Congress who dare to impeach or convict him.”
“The Twitter thing is different, right? We are seeing in these recent years that Elon Musk has behaved erratically at times, that the biographical facts that you mentioned that led to him at times talking about his loneliness, his sadness…” @RonanFarrow
“You take a guy with this much power, who is talking openly about his sadness, his isolation, his loneliness… There are people around him who are concerned. And then we as a nation — and indeed as a world — have to be concerned…”
@RonanFarrow @TheReidOut
“There are so many unanswered questions…lingering. How, for example, did Biden get 15 million more votes than his former boss Obama? Was the 2020 election a miracle? Honestly we don’t know and don’t expect an answer tonight.”
