Today, 17 Av, this year August 18h, marks the 80th anniversary of the Hebron massacre. With cries of “Slaughter the Jews” and “Allahu Akbar,” the mob broke into homes, tortured, raped and murdered men, women and children.
Benzion Gershon, a pharmacist @ Hadassah hospital, known throughout the region for helping Jews and Arabs alike, was tortured and murdered after being forced to watch the mobs rape and butcher his daughter. 67 Jewish men, women and children were killed. @billmaher history class
The survivors escaped to Jerusalem, and for the first time in hundreds of years, Hebron was empty of Jewish life. In 1968, after Israel’s victory in the 6 day war, Jews were allowed to return to Hebron. @billmaher history class

CONFIRMED: The man who drove his car over a crowd of #JewsAgainstICE and allies is Thomas Woodworth, a Captain at a for-profit ICE facility.

The safety of every person behind bars at the Wyatt Detention Center is in the hands of people like this. Our neighbors need to be freed!
This is our 36th action in the last 6 weeks, and over 300 of us have been arrested sounding the alarm: #NeverAgainIsNow

We’ve been partnering with groups like @AMORnetwork and @CosechaMovement.

Please consider donating to support all of our work: secure.actblue.com/donate/never-a…
@amornetwork @CosechaMovement Thank you to everyone supporting & praying for the health of the protestors. 4 of the 5 people hospitalized have been released. Sadly Captain Woodworth did fracture one person’s leg with his truck, and that person’s being examined for possible broken back & internal injuries😰

CW: car attack against protestors (yesterday)

A thread of some of my thoughts.
I woke up to news that an ICE guard drove a truck into a team of #NeverAgain protestors in Rhode Island.

No one was killed.

Several were injured.

Then police released tear gas on the Never Again protestors.
1. In the fight against fascism, we do not always get to choose our "risk level." I remember the first day in Cville when someone tried to arrest me for something. I had not chosen to "risk arrest" that day. Sometimes they arrest you because they want to, not because you want to.

ICE guard rams #JewsAgainstICE and Latinx activists with truck.

Days after anniversary of Heather Heyer's murder using the same tactic by white supremacist in Charlottesville.

Follow @NeverAgainActn for news from Wyatt detention center in Rhode Island. #NeverAgainIsNow
Reach Mayor @JamesDiossa to ask what will be done with police who refused to take reports and stood by as ICE continued to attack these peaceful protestors with pepper spray after having run them over with the truck.
Reach @GovRaimondo and demand an investigation of ICE's lawless actions attempting to kill protestors and how local police stood by and obstructed justice. #NeverAgainIsNow

This is my video. For a second I thought I was filming the next Heather Heyer moment. It was absolutely shocking and horrifying and I'm a bit shaken up. Fortunately it appears no one was seriously hurt #NeverAgainIsNow #NeverAgainIsNow #JewsAgainstICE
After the truck attack, the prison guard driving it just sat there and apparently called for backup, guards came out in very aggressive posture and started pepper spraying people
Several people ended up going to the hospital. Meanwhile the guards, including the driver of the vehicle, returned to the private prison where they are holding #ICE detainees. The police did nothing other than take witness statements. #NeverAgainIsNow

My daughter (6) is drawing kids in cages on a posterboard for tonight's #NeverAgainIsNow march in Rhode Island, and I'm this weird mix of proud and horrified.

She told me a few months ago that she wanted to get better at drawing so she could make better protest posters.
What a country.
Here is her poster, made with minimal direction from me (she occasionally asked for spelling help). After she finished it, she briefly practiced raising it and marching around the house.

BREAKING: #JewsAgainstICE are assembling to shut down their local concentration camp in Houston, Texas.

Never Again is a promise, and it requires action.

#JewsAgainstICE and allies in Houston are blocking the road outside of the Southwest Key facility. We will continue disrupting business as usual until you #CloseTheCamps, #AbolishICE, and stop terrorizing our immigrant neighbors.

PS: This street is called Emancipation Avenue. 🤔
Police are already on the scene in Houston, where #JewsAgainstICE are risking arrest to demand a #DignityPlan for immigration.

We're participating in nonviolent, direct action because we can't accept these atrocities in our communities.

Today, on Tisha B’Av, #JewsAgainstICE are taking action to say #NeverAgainIsNOW. Tisha B’Av is a Jewish day of mourning, and today we mourn for the people rounded up, torn from their families, thrown in cages, and deported by ICE.
We are turning our grief into action and taking to the streets to demand that tech companies stop enabling the deportation machine terrorizing immigrant communities, separating families, and putting children in cages.

#JewsAgainstICE #NoTech4ICE #NeverAgainIsNow #ClosetheCamps
We are at @amazon's store because @AWSCloud is vital to ICE’s cruelty.

Without Amazon, ICE cannot round immigrants up to imprison them in concentration camps or deport them. #JewsAgainstICE will not stay silent while tech companies profit off of cruelty.

So what's with the depressing pictures?
Welcome, yeah, it's a thing. I'm painting a new quote from a person detained at the border each day until this nightmare ends. Come join me. What can you do if you agree this sucks? (From easiest to hardest):
1. Follow me and share them. None of this matters if it doesn't help people get informed and stay focused. The more places this shows up on the internet the better. They're counting on us losing focus. Don't lose focus.
2. Call the white house, your reps, write to them, drive them crazy so it's clear that we have not forgotten, and they won't be excused for their inaction. People are literally dying because this administration refuses to accept legal asylum seekers and release them to family

We are witnessing a tragedy of historic proportion in the making. 24 people are dead in government camps. Tens of thousands of innocent people have been torn from their families. Children being put in cages.

Now is the time to act.

Here's what you can do today:
Find out who your local representatives are and contact them by going here: commoncause.org/find-your-repr….

Tell congresspeople that they must defund the DHS and ICE.

Tell local reps to end all contracts with ICE, GEO Group, and Core Civic, the companies profiting off of these camps.
Look for immigrant justice and activist organizations in your area. They exist. Just google it. Give them money. Give them time. Give them your voice.

Follow @NeverAgainActn or go to neveragainaction.com to find actions in your area, or to organize an action in your area.

These are the people who carried out pogroms against our ancestors, who enjoyed attacking us on Kristallnacht. We were raised to see the signs of a rising tide of violent dehumanizing racism, and all the signs are here.

We’re begging you to listen: #NeverAgainIsNow
Remember when you learned about the Holocaust and wondered why nice, regular people stood by and did nothing? Don’t let your grandchildren ask those same questions about you.
We are calling on Jews and allies to join us in shutting down these concentration camps, abolishing ICE, and fighting for permanent protection for our undocumented neighbors.

BREAKING: Jews and allies are blocking the door of the ICE Facility in Seattle, Washington.

We are putting our bodies on the line to shut down this inhumane system. #CloseTheCamps #NeverAgainIsNow #AbolishICE
Here's the view from outside. We are gathering to protest the treatment of immigrants across the country.

We have seen this pattern of dehumanization, demonization, and targeted terror before.

We know where it leads.

Today, I marched w/ hundreds to @Thrivent.

Why?

Movement to kidnap children, separate families, cage human beings and dehumanize our immigrant neighbors isn’t just about a racist president.

It’s about financial institutions making millions off investments in these practices
Two of the largest companies running private detention centers inprisoning families on border are CoreCivic & GEO Group.

They are profiting from detentions, separations, deaths & camps.

@Thrivent, according to recent FEC filings have almost 4 million invest in those companies
While hatred and bigotry readied the soil for the inhumane treatment at these concentration camps the water and sunlight providing nourishment for these camps to flourish is the cowardess and profit first mentality of multimillion dollar companies like @Thrivent

Perhaps less short than I intended. In my defense, a lot of it really was waiting for paint to dry. My last few days have been quotes about deliberate cruelty from adults. Today's follows the same theme, but the narrator is 7. Before we go on, think of a 7 year old you know.
Got one? Take a few deep breaths, because you're about to be mad as hell. This one takes a few tweets to get even the shortened relevant quote. It's shortened for 7 year old narrating lack of brevity and word economy :)
Day 18: “Yesterday after lunch the nurse brought a lice comb and hairbrush. A while later the guard came back and asked for (them)”
“We did not know where they were. We looked at each other to see who had the combs”

🚨NOW: #JewsAgainstICE in Los Angeles are shutting down the offices of the GEO Group, a private prison company that runs detention centers for ICE. 🚨
No more anonymity for anyone helping run the detention and deportation machine.

No rest for anyone profiting off of concentration camps.
Just 2 hours from this office building, GEO helps ICE run California’s largest concentration camp for immigrants.

Every day GEO employees go to work, they help Trump’s xenophobic & white supremacist agenda.

That’s why these #JewsAgainstICE are here saying #NeverAgainIsNow

This is Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vasquez.

Just 16 years old when he entered the US alone, on May 13, 2019.

He was a healthy child.

An optimistic child.

He was alone when he died 7 days later in a Border Patrol Station in Texas.

Carlos is the most recent of the #TrumpSeven.
2/ Carlos had 8 younger siblings who called him Goyito.

He loved playing soccer and music, especially piano and bass.

Carlos came to US to help support his brother Edgar who has special needs.

When he arrived in Rio Grande Valley (RGV), he was healthy.

3/ Children like Carlos are supposed to be in Border Patrol custody for 3 days or less.

Carlos spent SIX DAYS in McAllen BPS — without reason — instead of transferring to ORR custody.

Carlos (from Guatemala) was caged with people from Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil, Nicaragua…

@USATODAY @jomareewade @ACLU .@ACLU has filed a motion asking Judge Sabraw for clarification on WHEN EXACTLY CBP is allowed to separate children from their parents, cuz right now, they're doing it for crazy stuff.

911 children separated since June 2018.

185 of them under 5yrs old.

@USATODAY @jomareewade @ACLU In this update on the Ms L vs ICE case, the govt is CONTINUING to separate children from their parents for spurious, nonsensical reasons. Decades old DUIs, traffic tickets, misdemeanor shoplifting offenses, minor drug and fraud charges.
@USATODAY @jomareewade @ACLU @ifindkarma @DemocracyStorm @axidentaliberal @B52Malmet @TrinityResists @TrisResists @porpentina2017 @moved2italy @DanaScottlo Of the 185 children under age 5 that were separated from their parents by CBP, 13 were UNDER ONE YEAR OLD.

Infants. Tiny babies.

They were likewise separated for ridiculous reasons that would never be tolerated in American courts, for American children.
