At the recent launch of the #BigLeedsClimateConversation, Rob Greenland @TheSocBiz noted that the hashtag was trending in Leeds second only to Love Island.
So when I saw this article, I thought, how could this help us in our climate conversations so....
@TheSocBiz .. scrolling through, I definitely think there some really good advice in there for all those of us who are trying to have conversations about climate change, whether with those with love and or like, or those we've just met or with ppl on Twitter who sometimes vehemently..
1) Make your mental health a priority - definitely. With eco-anxiety on rise, we all need to take time out. I went for a lovely walk in the rain earlier and so enjoyed not being MELTINGLY HOT!
@TheSocBiz 3) Love comes in many forms .. and just as there are very simple (and cheap) ways to truly prove your romantic feelings for someone, so there are a thousand ways to start conversations about climate change. I had a cracker on Twitter earlier which started with a stranger ..
@TheSocBiz .. tweeting a comment at me that ended 'Bloody pathetic!', continued through a discussion on Brexit and climate change, moved via David Attenborough onto plastic bags and getting people out of their cars, and ended with 'Have a nice evening!' It was Love-ly!
@TheSocBiz 5) Call out bull**t - I'm not one for swearing on Twitter but here's the advice, 'When you see an injustice, it’s important to not let it slide.' Climate change is a justice issue, so when we have conversations about it, it's great if we can mention those who are already being..
@TheSocBiz ..impacted, the most vulnerable being among those who have contributed the least to carbon emissions.
@TheSocBiz 7) Always talk to your partner first Well it's definitely a great place to start! When I met my boyfriend, he was massively into flying all over for exotic hols and thought his red sports car was the biz. Now he's discovered how exciting pan-European train travel is and ...
@TheSocBiz ... loves the bright yellow bike he bought on Ebay for a 100 quid.
8) Don’t be afraid to show your sensitive side I'm very willing to admit that I have experience a whole range of emotions in response to the #climate and ecological emergency. It's tough reading article..
@TheSocBiz .. after article outlining the scale and pace of climate change which is invariably faster than scientists predicted. But I'm so heartened by the recent rise of citizen led movements and Twitter is full of wonderful, sensitive ppl who lift my spirits and galvanise me everyday
If they are the CEOs of oil and gas companies, they are possibly not that nice!
@TheSocBiz 11) Don’t make promises you can’t keep It's great to have conversations which lead to each person committing to an action but don't feel like you have to commit to always doing a particular thing or never doing something again. We don't have to be perfect, just doing in the..
@TheSocBiz And finally, 13) All is fair in love and war. The article says,'remember not to internalise problems and take them too personally.'
Ok, so this is a biggie. Tackling climate change means system change and that's challenging and there'll be differences of opinions /approach..
@TheSocBiz .. so let's remember that those of us with a common goal need to stay constructive and work together as best we can, as that's the only way we'll get the disengaged on board. Let's keep talking, keep listening, keep finding common ground and stay compassionate.
@TheSocBiz And a couple of tweets got sidelined buy hey, you get my gist!
@TheSocBiz And finally, in case you're looking for tweets about 2,4,6 or 10, I didn't cover them but if you can find ways of relating the article to conversations about #climatechange, do tag them on!
Almost every time people, often still stunned by what has just happened to them, are interviewed after the latest #climatechange amplified disaster, they say the same thing: 'Shocking. I've never seen anything like it.' In a #ClimateEmergency we need a WWII style mobilisation
Formed in 2015, The Climate Mobilzation mission is to
initiate a WWII-scale mobilisation to reverse global warming and the mass extinction of species in order to protect humanity and the natural world from climate catastrophe.
They are an innovation lab that develops and launches policy frameworks, messaging, and organizing approaches to accelerate the global transition into “Emergency Mode” to address the climate emergency.
Based in the US, but relevant across the world, their core demands are:
Lying in bed looking at the flood map of the UK and thinking about my parents' home in Hull which flooded for the first time in 2007, my relative's home in Cumbria, which flooded for the 1st time in 2015, my sister who had to be rescued from a flooded road during the same storm..
..their friends who had to be rescued out of first floor bedrooms, my ex whose workplace took in bedraggled villagers as the River Eamont swallowed the heart of the village, my brother's firefighter colleagues who could not save the man whose foot had become trapped..
.. in a storm drain, my retired neighbour who did the backbreaking work of building us both a wall at the end of our gardens so no more of it would be washed away by the worsening storms, the Horsforth residents I overheard yesterday by the bridge at Newlay nervously wondering..

Concerns are growing that UK children are not being taught adequately about the emergency.
Joe Brindle, 17, founded a campaign group, Teach the Future, which has spent the last few months formulating legislation entitled the climate emergency education bill.
The latest version has just arrived in his inbox: it has been written by a professional parliamentary draftsperson, paid for by crowdfunding.
On 26 February Brindle and his fellow campaigners will gather in parliament’s biggest committee room to launch their bill
