Have also heard rumours that Hungary's László Trócsányi could be commissioner for humanitarian aid.
An argument goes: good to give Hungary this job b/c aid budget could be used to help deter migrants.
Treating this as informed speculation, rather than fact.
If true, this would be go down badly with centrists, probably greens and socialists.

Guy Verhofstadt has said British nationals living in EU27 countries are facing "a huge problem" because some administrations "are making things more difficult".

EP needs to sort out before consent to WA.

Can't recall such pointed criticism of arrangements in EU27 for Brits.
British nationals in France are worried about minimum income requirements.

While in Germany people are said to be in limbo over their status - more here theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
And in Belgium, one British national had to file official documents to confirm that Edmonton (her birth place) was in London (place of birth on ID card).

Boris Johnson: Getting a Brexit deal "not made much easier by this kind of stuff in parliament, or in the courts".

Is that true? Focusing purely on Brussels negotiations - I would say no.
Of course may be other reasons why SC decision makes it harder for gov - loss of gov time, energy and political capital.

But on substance of negotiations nothing has changed.
EU thinks UK has failed to come up with adequate replacement for Irish backstop. That was EU view before judgement and (unsurprisingly) is view now.

Liberal Democrat MEPs have written to JC Juncker after his @SophyRidgeSky interview, to challenge his statement that "Brexit will happen". LD say Boris Johnson lacks a clear democratic mandate to negotiate Brexit on behalf of the UK. Points to LD policy on revoking A50.
Lib Dems to Juncker: "Please do not fall into the trap of thinking that compromising with Boris Johnson now will in any way 'solve' the British relationship with Europe."
Lib Dem letter points to what many in EU fear: if the UK revokes or remains, the poisonous divisions of Brexit will not heal and will continue to disrupt the EU.

Ursula von der Leyen wins 383 of 733 votes (327 against) and is thus elected European Commission president. A narrow win: 51% and probably reliant on vote of populists like Poland's PiS.
(51% of MEPs, 52% of those who voted - compared with 56% for Juncker in 2014)
And there we have it: it seems Ursula von der Leyen may owe her win to a last-minute phone call to Warsaw by Angela Merkel

Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell is a well-known supporter of the mullahs in Iran. Borrell has also said that he hopes Britain will leave the EU because it is an impediment to the creation of a European superstate.
