Today is the 164th birth anniversary of Vasudev Balwant Phadke, one of the earliest revolutionaries of the Indian freedom struggle, post 1857.

Bhabha was also the founding director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (@TIFRScience) and AET (later BARC).

US China trade war - no gain for India? #MakeInIndia?

Out of 56 companies that relocated their production out of China in the past 1.5 years, only three went to India and two to Indonesia.

26 relocated to Vietnam, 11 went to Taiwan and 8 to Thailand.

Did you know that Lokmanya Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Maharishi Karve were all Mathematics Professors as well?

The three of them taught math at the Fergusson College in Pune.
Interestingly, it was the disagreements between Tilak and Gokhale that led to the former's resignation from the faculty.

Gokhale had to 'recruit' his college batchmate, Dhondo Keshav Karve (who was teaching in Mumbai) to the Fergusson College to fill in to teach Math, in Pune.
Karve then settled in Pune, and went onto start the Hingne Home for Widows, Women's School and the SNDT Women's University here.

Today is the Jayanti of Vasudev Balwant Phadke, often regarded as the father of armed revolt in India, who led an armed uprising against the British, post 1857, mobilizing lower peasant communities in Maharashtra. A hero of whom not much is known.
Phadke's exploits against the British, were the reference for Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's epic novel, Anand Math. A Chitpavan Brahmin from Konkan, who rallied the lower peasant communities like Kolis, Dhangars, Bhils against the British rule. At one stage occupied Pune too.
Vasudev Balwant Phadke was born in the coastal Konkan village of Shirdhon, in Raigad district, on November 4, 1845. He showed no interest in regular school education, and preferred to learn wrestling, horse riding. This was the home where he was born

Today is Jayanti of Shyamji Krishna Varma, mentor of Veer Savarkar, man who set up India House in London, that became a meeting point of revolutionaries. A businessman who used his immense wealth to fund the freedom struggle and a gem of a person.
Mentor to many a revolutionary from Veer Savarkar to Lala Hardayal to Madame Bhikaji Cama. He gave up a flourishing legal career to take part in the freedom struggle. That was Shyamji Krishna Varma.
He founded the India House in London, which would become the center for most Indian revolutionaries, operating outside of India or in exile. This would be Shyamji Krishna Varma's biggest achievement ever.

Today is the death anniversary of Mahakavi Bharatiyar, one of the greatest Tamil writers of modern era, freedom fighter, nationalist, thinker. Who spread nationalism among masses through his works.
Chinnaswami Subramania Bharathi, or better known as Mahakavi Bharatiyar, a writer, a revolutionary, a freedom fighter, a nationalist and thinker. A polyglot fluent in 14 languages, and one of the most prolific writers in Tamil, who wrote on a variety of themes.
One of the pioneers of modern Tamil Literature, who used simple language to reach to the masses, and a metre called Nondi Chinu in most of his works. His proficiency in earned him the title of Bharati, when he was just 11, meaning one blessed by Saraswati Devi.

Today is the Punya Thithi of Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, one of the tallest leaders of the Indian Independence Movement. An inspiration to a whole generation of revolutionaries from Azad to Savarkar. A writer and thinker too.
Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who famously declared "Swaraj is my birthright", was born to Gangadhar Ramachandra Tilak a Sanskrit scholar and teacher himself in the coastal town of Ratnagiri. A brilliant student in Maths and Sanskrit.
Tilak was a brilliant but equally mischievous student too. Independent in nature, not awed by authority, this was the reason why he was not exactly the teacher’s favorite. And he never accepted injustice meekly.

Today is the Punya Thithi of Alluri Sitarama Raju, the great revolutionary hero who led an uprising against the British in the tribal regions of Andhra Pradesh, and was shot dead by them on this date in 1924. Another great hero who did not get his due.
One of the more ignored aspects of the Indian freedom struggle has been the various tribal revolts that broke out against the British rule. Tribals were prohibited from cutting trees for firewood, their traditional Podu cultivation was banned, and they were often exploited
Many protests broke out in the tribal areas of Eastern Indian, notably Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Western Odisha, Bengal, one of the more famous one was that of Birsa Munda in Jharkhand.

Today is the Jayanti of Vasudev Balwant Phadke, regarded as the father of the Indian Armed Revolt. An inspiration to many a revolutionary, one of the early freedom fighters, who passed away in a prison in Aden.
A Chitpavan Brahmin himself, Phadke rallied most of the backward communities like Koils, Dhangars, Bhils against the British, creating a mass based resistance movement. Most of these were the warriors who made up the Maratha Army.
Phadke usually targeted rich businessmen, to get funds for the liberation struggle, and he actually managed to seize control of Pune for a day, taking the British by surprise. Bankim Chandra's landmark novel Ananda Math, had many references to him.
