The Tale of the Innocent Gizzard. My Madam and I met shortly after we both moved to London. At the time we met, we had no money. No, you don’t understand. I mean that we had NO MONEY! Very often, to eat was a struggle. We had to take sandwiches to work. I hate sandwiches. Thread.
We often bought Chinese egg fried rice with no sauce. We’ll just ask them for chili sauce to flavor it with. Sometimes, I’ll come back from work and there is only one meal. I’ll ask Madam where her own food is and she will say she had already eaten.
I will cross-examine her and realise that she was lying. You see, my law was not yet rusty then.😀 She hadn’t eaten but had left the only meal we could afford for me. We’ll share the meal between us & drink plenty of water to hold body. I took note of her willingness to sacrifice
At that time in London, gizzard was about the cheapest source of protein. Madam cooked gizzard with EVERYTHING! Indeed, I didn’t know that it was possible to be so creative with any food. Fried o, peppered o, stewed o, pepper soup o, gizzard, gizzard, gizzard!
People ask for different things when they pray. I never prayed for promotion or to get a job, or even good health. I only had one prayer point when I prayed back then: “Father Lord, please bless me such that I would not have to eat gizzard again for the rest of my life.”
About 2 years after we met, I started eating stockfish and snail. I said to gizzard “Dear Gizzard, you’ve been good to us. You’ve been faithful and it is not your fault that we overused you. However, this is where our roads will part, never to meet again. Thanks for everything.”
I haven’t eaten gizzard in 25 years. These days, some extended family members will say “It is that is wife that is eating all his money.” I will ask them “Before nko? Where you there when I was eating gizzard?” They never asked what I meant and I never explained it to them.
Today is my 27th wedding anniversary. 25 good years of not eating gizzard. Please thank God for me. I will also pray for you: May God bless you such that you will no longer have to eat whatever “gizzard” you currently have in your life. God bless.
