@CliveBeaufoy @BioLayne @thatlowcarbguy There's also the only centenarians in the current dataset (those making it to 100 and still counted as "assumed alive"). Four of the five had low TG, five of the five high HDL, and five of the five with high LDL taken 15 years earlier. #LipidTriad
@CliveBeaufoy @BioLayne @thatlowcarbguy Many insist the lower LDL=greater ACM is actually "reverse causality", but I haven't seen this yet in the NHANES data. In fact, I ran it all they way out to 10 years - excluding any deaths occurring in that time frame to help rule out reverse causality.
@CliveBeaufoy @BioLayne @thatlowcarbguy But again, I'd caveat that associational data isn't good at proving causation. That said, it is good at providing strong evidence against claims of causation, particularly when showing the reverse of the hypothesis.
