The rise of the far right across Europe must be opposed by every citizen who believes in racial tolerance. The links between a number of European governments and the far right that is suspected to include the U.K. is extremely worrying but not enough is being done to deal with it
Brexit has unleashed a sharp rise in anti-immigrant attacks in public and online. Social media is awash with vile accusations against foreigners, especially those in the low paid jobs sector whilst the U.K. government is doing little to discourage a culture of open racism.
The latest harsh blow to immigrants is the recent immigration law passed by Johnson’s government, the very same PM who referred to Muslim women wearing a Burka as a letterbox or gay people as ‘bum boys’ and black peoples as having ‘watermelon smiles’.
Patel, herself the daughter of an immigrant is pushing the boat out in terms of having the audacity to ignore the fact that she would probably never have grown up in the U.K. had the recent immigration law been in place when her forebears landed on these shores.
But audacity isn’t just the issue here. From civil service Mandarins to human rights groups and lawyers who deal wth immigration cases, she is coming under heavy criticism that she is crossing the line in terms of style and approach to those she deals with on an every day basis.
Her boss is no less adversarial and bullishly arrogant given his track record of challenging the will of even parliament and the courts in order to get his petulant and privileged ways.
Even the renowned broadcaster, David Dimbleby, has come out of retirement to launched a savage attack on 'lying' Boris Johnson's 'pernicious' attempt to undermine the BBC. Senior Tories are even expressing their deep concerns that this cabinet has already gone too far!
The fact that members of the British cabinet are being sleighted as having gone too far in the eyes of the very same people who would never have been remotely described as leaning to the political left or indeed described as having pronounced political views is deeply disturbing!
Why it is so disturbing is that it reveals just how far right this government is and how it doesn’t even sit comfortably with the usually discrete gatekeepers of government and public figures who have been synonymous with the British establishment for many decades past!
From Cummings to Johnston to Patel to Gove it is a wrecking ball of all that we have known and respected in protecting ourselves from foreign interference in our electoral processes to respect for the law and a diverse multi-racial and inclusive society that is reflected in us.
It is a far right agenda wrapped in outpourings of getting Brexit done and reinforced by lashings of blatant propaganda aimed to divert our moral compass away from the real targets and objectives of such legislation, foreign interference & the ongoing evasive techniques employed
It is both totally irresponsible and authoritarian. It is a dictatorship of the very few backed by those who pursue hard right outcomes disguised as a radical transformation of Britain. It is a grim prospect for future generations to have to endure!
The appearances of government ministers at far right venues does little to assuage public concerns over how strong are the links between Johnson’s government and the far right is precisely and how much more its policies will target the vulnerable to destroy local communities??
This government does not intend to aid, build or empower communities but only to ignore their cries for help. Johnston only believes in giving the working class enough rope to hang themselves by fostering division & hatred of their neighbours whilst the north lies in flood waters
By the time the people of the north realise just how far right is the new Tory government, the glue that held communities together against a common enemy will have come unstuck and where then will they look for neighbourly help or those low paid enough to do the jobs they refuse!
