We are having a virtual Easter dinner with our kids & their partners across the country this evening. This is the first Easter in 33 years that we have spent w/ just the two of us. Everyone is making dinner in their own homes. We used to make dinner together. #LockdownEaster 1/5
I know I am cooking for 2 instead of for 7 or more. And yet, I find I have become the energizer bunny of culinary excess. I keep making side dishes. I need to stop. 2/5
I am vegan and my husband is not. For entrees I am making a mushroom and lentil pie for me and a roasted chicken pot pie for him. Both with puff pastry tops. Marinated some chicken thighs this morning and roasted them for his pie... 3/5
I have made a tossed green salad with sauteed beets, I have all the veggies cut up for a Thai-inspired stir-fry, and I am in the middle of making "cheezy" vegan scalloped potatoes... 4/5
I need to stop. Clearly I have a problem. We are going to be eating leftovers for a week. Not a bad thing, but sheesh, this got out of hand so fast! 5/5 #cookingtocope

People are agitating for things to get "back to normal" after only less than a couple of months. WWII lasted 5 years. Husbands, fathers, brothers, sons, sweethearts, and also, daughters, sisters, aunts... went away to fight or nurse... 1/8
And no one knew if they would come back. London was bombed daily, except for one day, from September 7, 1940, until May 1941. During the Great Depression, the world went through drought and famine for years. Unemployment was through the roof. Food was in short supply. 2/8
People were desperate. My own Dad at 17 rode the rails because his family couldn't afford to feed him anymore.
In 1918, the Spanish Flu wreaked havoc upon the world. It killed between 20 and 40 million people. The first wave was in the spring of 1918. 3/8

So, I have questions. Is there an epidemiologist or other communicable disease specialist out there with answers?
1. If people who had #COVID19 and have recovered are getting sick again, as we are now hearing about, does that mean the antibodies in their blood don't last? Or 1/4
Does it mean the virus went dormant and remained in their bodies, so effectively they were never "cured" in the first place? Or does it mean the virus mutated so the original antibodies were not effective?
2. If a person can get reinfected, how effective would a vaccine be? 2/4
As I understand it, a vaccine "tricks" your body into producing antibodies so they are already there if you are exposed to the virus and ready to fight it off. But if the antibodies to this virus do not remain effective, or have not been effective in eliminating the virus... 3/4

I hope we have a reset during this pandemic lockdown. I hope people learn to cook and garden and fix things themselves. I hope people realise that office buildings are largely unnecessary because most of the work that is done in them can be done from home. 1/8
I hope people discover that their co-workers and bosses and employees are real people with all the quirky things at home that no one in the work environment ever gets to see under normal circumstances. 2/8
I hope everyone learns that people are more important than profit and we need to rewire our systems to reflect that. 3/8
