Lessons from Iceland, a model country for #COVID19 containment, from extensive population testing and virus sequencing
nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… @NEJM
I want to add 2 notable points I learned from this report
1. Iceland began testing for #COVID19 1 month before a patient there was diagnosed
2. 43% of the participants testing positive had no symptoms
(some likely were pre-symptomatic)
Iceland testing vs rest of world.
Not just how many per 1,000 people.
When they started.
Who they tested.
And kept testing.
And achieved model containment.
It's not just about an island country of 300,000 people.
This recipe would work to limit spread and deaths anywhere.
