WHY were the govt shooting to make ANY ventilators that - as @AlisonPittard says - wouldn't be any use? Median time on a vent from #COVID19 is 3-4 days, she tells me. What use hours?

Quite apart from the fact that such basic machines result in poorer outcomes, per ICU specialists, but Setting a specification so low the machines are largely pointless it burns through manufacturer goodwill. They work to deliver the spec only to discover goalposts move.
It feels like there’s a load of wide boys in charge who care more about pretending to do good than actually doing good.
Makes one wonder WHICH experts they consulted if not the Faculty of ICU Specialists.
