LOL @ReutersVzla are MASTERS at burying information
Two examples:
1) a study showing that US sanctions on #Venezuela killed thousands by end of 2018 alone
2) expert criticism that exposed the bogus OAS electoral audit that incited a military coup in #Bolivia

THREAD
Few other whoppers in this article worth mentioning but remember that the US -which has expelled foreign journalists or registered them as foreign agents - would never tolerate foreign propagandists like Reuters on its soil under Venezuela's circumstances (facing invasion!).
The article says "Venezuela was once at the forefront of healthcare in the developing world" This is too vague to be called "false" as I'll explain but its a gross distortion. It says Venezuela was 1rst to eliminate Malaria (in1961) and had excellent hospitals/researchers.
The clear insinuation is Venezuela was the best in the developing word in HEALTH OUTCOMES. The US - a notorious laggard in health outcomes among rich countries - nevertheless has numerous world class hospitals & researchers.
But saying the US is at "forefront of health care" is inexcusable - especially if the insinuation is that its health outcomes are better than most rich countries because, in many key ways, they are scandalously bad. Similar remarks apply to #Venezuela in 1960-98 period
After painting a rosy picture of health care in Venezuela in the distant past Reuters says that "Changes came with the 1998 election of Hugo Chavez". In reality, Venezuela hit its historic peak in GDP per capita just before 1980 then entered into a deep and prolonged collapse.
In 1980, near peak of its per capita wealth due of an oil boom, Venezuela had ~ double the child mortality rate of Cuba & Costa Rica - countries not blessed with its oil wealth. So no, Venezuela NEVER stood out in a good way in terms of its health outcomes.
And by 1989, Venezuela US-backed government at the time massacred hundreds (possibly thousands) of poor people over 5 days - the infamous Caracazo Massacre - to keep a lid on unrest. Prez George Bush Sr. called Venezuela's president during the massacre to offer his support
That's 11 years before "change" came to Venezuela as far @ReutersVzla was concerned. Readers who rely on Reuters would be live Venezuela's economy and health care system were progressing nicely until Chavez disrupted things (in a bad way) in 1998 when he was first elected
By 2012, under Chavista governments -despite two major US-backed coup attempts (1 briefly successful) - Venezuela's per capital income recovered to nearly its 1978/80 level. Reuters doesn't mention that or how Venezuela's medical establishments disgraced itself during those yrs
I'll wrap it up here, but please note. in this article @ReutersVzla did not even bother with its usual token reference to US sanctions that "Maduro says" are damaging. This is how "respectable" media outlets facilitate crimes against humanity.
