Time to take a peek inside the ol' #DavesCarIDService mailbag
Holy shnikeys, this rockets to the top of my all-time favorite ID requests. SoCal 1951 was the Eden of early hot rodding, as demonstrated by these Hollywood High kids: a 1932 Ford ("Deuce") roadster, and a 46-48 Ford Tudor sedan.
Notable mods on the roadster: it is a "lowboy," i.e. body channeled over the frame; later model 24 stud flathead, 2 pot intake, DeSoto bumper, 40 Ford wheels & caps (and likely juice brakes). I doubt Hollywood High still has a full dress auto shop with a Sun engine tester.
roadster also has frame mounted BLC headlights. And dig those crazy duds, daddy-o: 3 finger cuff Levis, white t-shirts & socks, Pendletons, bomber jackets, hi-shine loafers, and no skimping on the Brylcreem.
You can almost date the pic by the socks. By the mid 50s the argyle sock craze was in full swing, a trend referred to by the Hollywood Argyles. They were a doowop group who scored a #1 hit with their cartoon caveman homage "Alley Oop"
before I keep going off on a tangent, here's another one from the same era, also possibly in SoCal. Mom in her tight skirt is serving as fender candy for a 1953 Mercury Monterey convertible.
Another car pinup mom, this one with a 1955 Ford Fairlane sporting a 1957 NY license plate
A couple more 1950s gals gracing a Ford Motor Company product, this one another 1955 Fairlane. Dig that crazy poodle skirt (well, I guess deer skirt) and the de rigeur bobby sox
I'd be pleased to turn this edition of car ID-ing into a 1950s moms and grandmas on Ford fenders special. Judy here is atop a 1947-48 Ford.
And an earlier one of Judy, this time with a much earlier Ford, a 1924-26 Model T that would already have been considered an antique.
I guess it's OK to let a Chevy get into the act. Miss Ruth Ann here is perched on a 1949 Chevrolet sedan.
digging a little further back in time, pretty sure (but not 100%) these fabulously fashionable flappers are on the bumper of a 1924-ish Chevy coupe
As not to alienate my female readership, I'll turn to a few vintage beefcake dads & grandpas. This shipshape swabby is with 2 different convertibles: left, a 1948 Olds, and right, a 1949-50 Ford

Here's a whole carload of greasers off to steal some Cleveland hubcaps in what I think is a 1953-54 Ford or Mercury, but not 100% sure
On left, a load of GWU Joe Colleges in their jaunty graffiti-festooned frat house 1929 Ford Model A jalopy; on right, a trio of 1940-42 Dodge trucks (cab-over, 1 ton, and panel delivery) stopping for gas & eats at a Richfield
Looks like these ne'er-do-wells are going to rob a few banks in a 1928-29 Ford Model A
The Modale town bully caught in the act in front of a 1957 Ford (Monona county plates) and a 1948-49 Hudson (Shelby county plates)
This young Southie hoodlum is taking out his frustration on a 1966-67 Lincoln Continental coupe
Sapton's most feared street gang, the Sapton Potato Club, wearing their colors in front of a 1950-54 British Ford Zephyr
turning to some miscellania, 3 Piaggios in 2 pics. On left, a 1995ish Vespa PX and a 1985ish Ape; on left, a 2000ish Ape. Yes, they actually called their 3 wheeled deliveries the "Ape," and in fact the first one was an "Ape Poker"
bit of an eye test here, but nearest seems to be a 1925ish Dodge Brothers touring, furthest is definitely a 1920-24 Ford Model T roadster
GG-grandma is tending to the kids in front of a (L) 1938 Pontiac sedan, and (R) 1935 Oldsmobile L35
Dad's Cincinnati misfortune took place in a 1949 Chevy Styleline
This oddly happy chain gang is digging the dirt with a 1932-34 Ford Model BB truck
RIP Dad. His scouting photo was in front of the forever stylish 1940 Ford Tudor sedan.
I spy a clown with a clown-worthy circa rear engine 1960 Renault Dauphine. The success of the VW Beetle spawned a brief foray of other Euro mini-cars into the US market during the age of US land yachts.
on the other end of the automotive size spectrum, Arnold Palmer could fit a whole division of Arnie's Army inside this 1973 Caddy Eldo
That's it for today, back tomorrow to empty more of the #DavesCarIDService mailbox. Until then, happy motoring.
