(1/11) WE LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER - From load-in to completion, see in this thread how we stood up an Alternate Care Center to support hospital surge at the @CityofBaltimore Convention Center, one of several opening in Region 3. first picture shows a massive, empty convention center room with a Maryland Flag and a few people wearing military and other uniforms standing socially distant. The second photo is the same room, with hundreds of partitioned rooms, hospital beds, intake centers with nursing staff, and the American and Maryland flags side by side.
(2/11) To support @StateMaryland @CityofBaltimore hospitals & health care system as part of Maryland's hospital surge plan, @FEMAregion3 worked with @MDMEMA @MDNG @USACEBaltimore @MDHealth @JohnsHopkins & others to stand up an Alternate Care Site at Baltimore Convention Center. Image shows the inside of a truck in a loading dock with four large boxes filling the width of the truck perfectly.
(3/11) We brought a Federal Medical Station to #Baltimore - A rapidly deployable cache of beds and supplies, which transforms a building into a temporary medical shelter housing less acute #COVID19 patients, freeing up hospital beds for more serious cases. Image shows uniformed workers loading boxes from a truck into the convention center with a forklift. the boxes say GSA approved contractor.
(4/11) With the direction of the @GovLarryHogan, leased by the @MarylandGov, through @GSA and put together by the @MDNG, we all worked around the clock to make sure this site would be ready in time for #COVID19 surge. Image of Maryland National Guard uniformed soldiers lifting cots off out of a box.
(5/11) The site will treat COVID-19 patients who were treated in a hospital, and are convalescent - recovering from their infection, but still need direct medical attention & cannot be cared for at home. Patients will be transitioned to their homes when care is completed. Image of cots arranged in rows, setting the stage for rooms to be built around them, a semi-complete setup. The American and State of Maryland flags loom large overhead.
(6/11) Baltimore's field hospital will not serve as a location for direct patient admissions. Patients will be transported through emergency department or inter-facility referrals. higher up perspective of the same area with privacy partitions and 250 rooms built around the beds with curtains, an intake area with nurses in scrubs, and signs that say G and H.
(7/11) The expected length of stay for patients is 5 to 7 days. No patient visitors will be permitted on site due to infection concerns. A large computer projection screen that says Capacity Management (Today - Convention Center). Occupancy by unit section has odometers showing zero current census, 252 open beds, and exp conf dc. below that is a medicinal grouping that says BCCPODA BCCPODB BCCPODC BCCPODD BCCPODE BCCPODF BCCPODG BCCPODH with listings reflecting the overall odometers. Last is a section of Transfer Center Intakes.
(8/11) Medical staff from @HopkinsMedicine prepare to come aboard as the conversion of the Baltimore Convention Center into a 250-bed alternate care facility is almost complete. medical professionals in bright blue personal protective equipment, otherwise known as PPE, masks, and face shields face each other on each side of a hallway, taking off equipment as another healthcare worker not wearing PPE points to a sign on the wall with step by step instructions on how to doff or take off PPE.
(9/11) Incoming @JHUNursing nursing staff learn how to shield themselves from the virus by properly donning and #doffing personal protective equipment (PPE). top photo shows a medical professional in bright blue personal protective equipment, otherwise known as PPE, mask and face shield putting on gloves on a wire rack. Next photo shows the dame medical professional next to a wall with arms crossed over each shoulder, taking off equipment next to a sign on the wall with step by step instructions on how to doff or take off PPE.
(10/11) The Convention Center Field Hospital will be staffed by more than 1,000 medical professionals and health care workers to assist with the surge of short-term COVID-19 patients that have less acute medical needs top photo shows a healthcare provider in bright teal scrubs with purple underneath wearing a mask pushing a bed down an aisle. Bottom photo shows a man and a woman wearing masks looking over a binder on top of a box labeled ASPR RX CACHE #15 pharmaceutical 1 of 2
