Kicking off #DavesCarIDService today with these 3 smiling wahines in Hawaii. I really want to say circa 1920 Chevy 490 roadster, but seems a bit small; maybe the camera angle is distorting it
The Chevy 490 was the first direct shot over the bow of Ford, which had a 50% global market share with the Model T at the time. It was named the "490" because the price was $490, same as the T, and led to a mini price war. By 1925, a new Model T was as low as $260.
This is a 1938 Chevy Master coupe, but a few cues suggest Ford bits are involved. Low front stance says probably a Mustang II (or Nova, or Camaro) IFS, bolt spacing in rear hit at a Ford 9" rear diff
The 1974-78 malaise era Mustang II is basically unloved by Mustang enthusiasts, but it was a boon to street rodding folk. Countless junkyard Mustang IIs have donated their front suspensions to fat-fendered street rods.
Keeping it on the Chevy theme with this request from my ol' pal @AdamBaldwin, featuring a handsome 66 Impala ragtop sporting (I think) Shelby 407 wheels. I'm a sucker for contrasting shades of same color, especially blue
No, you are not descended from a family of giantesses, that is a diminutive 1930-34 Austin American Bantam. Picture 2 is a 1941-46 Chevy pickup.
Bantams were made in Butler PA, based on a design licensed from the UK Austin car company. One of the first US mini-cars, many of them were cut up and made into dragsters in the 1960s. Bantam also contributed to US war effort in WW2, making the first Jeep prototype.
Here are a few slightly modified Bantams. They were especially popular in the Fuel Altered and Altered Coupe classes.
it would have to be the very late 40s at earliest; the whole gang here is obscuring a 1949 or 1950 Ford 4 door sedan
1949 or 50 Nash Ambassador or Airflyte
Thanks to a good Samaritan who hashtagged your request with #DavesCarIDService, I can tell you this is a 1940 Oldsmobile sedan
Had to do a double-take on this one. It's a 1939 Mercury 4 door sedan, but headlight bezels are from a 1940 Mercury or Ford.
These gals are doing pinup poses on a 1923-25 Ford Model T coupe
Not 100% sure, but I believe the fun-loving Chicago Polack Polkaholics are congregating on the running board of a 1940 Ford or Mercury. Love this pic.
a brief lesson on partial-pic car IDs: 1939-41 was a rapid transition period for mainline US cars, during which wing windows appeared and running boards & external door hinges disappeared. If a car has running boards and visible hinges, it's pre-1941.
Grandpa Whitey here is standing in front of a well-worn 1920-25 Ford Model T touring, outfitted with various 2x4s to hold bedrolls & camping gear. Also evidence that kids have been having meltdowns on car trips for a long, long time.
1961 Ford Galaxie sedan, from the twilight of fender skirts.
It's true that some behemoth Cadillacs, Buicks, Olds etc had fender skirt option into the late 70s, but for the most part they were considered an anachronism for old folks by the early 60s.
whatcha got there is a 1940 Chevrolet pickup
Man, this is a tough one. Grab bar, top lights and firewall suggest a circa 1940 Chevy or Dodge COE (cab over engine) big truck, RHD for Australian market, but the fancy ribbing on rear pillar doesn't match. Any big truck fans care to assist here?
L-R:
1959 Impala, 1966 Impala, 1962 Galaxie, 1965 Pontiac Tempest, 1965 Olds 98, and wacky weirdness of a 1961 Plymouth Valiant station wagon
1939 Chevy coupe, but with what I think is a 1940 Chevy hood ornament
1934 Plymouth Deluxe, and a great photo.
Dad had unusual taste in vehicles, because I believe that's ~1937 Chevy fire truck. (note hose reel, big fender lights, and copious pinstriping)
It's really fuzzy, but I'm conjecturing the car back there is a 1972 or so Olds 88 2 door, and that picture is totally giving me flashbacks
speaking of farming, this is a circa 1915 J.I. Case steam tractor, made in Racine WI
gotta say they had one of the best logos ever
Closing out today's session of #DavesCarIDService with another touching daddy-daughter duo, in front of a circa 1926 Buick 6 sedan. Back tomorrow tackle some more.
