Listened to this today- well worth your time. Main takeaways:

-there’s still so much we don’t know
-it’s remarkable we know as much as we do thanks to global scientific effort.
-we are going to get out of this, through science (medicine/vaccine) but it’s going to take a while.
Also interesting moment when talking about a vaccine, Whitty says that’s the only situation (ie where a vaccine was available) where you’d pursue herd immunity as a public policy outcome.

That certainly wasn’t what the noise from elements of govt (and Vallance) was in March...
Wondered whether this was a rejoinder or a sort. We’ve certainly seen Whitty being more vocal in what he thinks about certain policy outcomes, of late...
Also when talking about R, Whitty says that once the virus established itself in the UK R was 3.

Would be interesting to know whether that was said to ministers and if so when.

If it was and was before lockdown, hard to see why there was much delay, given obvious implications.
