NEW: Police say threat of "civil war" sent to public health officials in Denver's suburbs. ""We the people" are DONE with this f---ing bulls--t, and you're about to start a hot-shooting no bulls--t civil war. END. THE LOCKDOWN. NOW. Or face severe consequences.” #9NEWS
Greenwood Village Police say the threat was emailed to a receptionist at the Tri-County Health Department, which covers Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas Counties. Police have increased patrols around the public health agency.
Police say the email read, "I know you're the receptionist and not responsible for these edicts... but tell the 9 petty tyrants who want to keep locking most of Colorado down to F--- OFF." Tri-County has 9 directors, all with medical expertise, appointed by county commissioners.
Tri-County Health exempted conservative Douglas County from an extended stay-home order amid pushback from Republican elected officials there. Elected Republicans had suggested firing Tri-County and starting a new health department when a stay-home order was first proposed.
Douglas County leaders said the exemption was due to the county's lower case count but the Republican Mayor of Aurora, Mike Coffman, said it was the result of political pressure. The City of Aurora sits in all three counties.
Mayor Coffman will be a guest tonight on #HeyNext. He's calling on Tri-County to give Aurora more specific guidance on whether a public mask order is necessary. The health department declined to issue a recommendation, noting that such orders had been politicized.
