Black America is in an abusive relationship with this country. We were violently forced into this non-consensual relationship. We’ve taken the beatings, killings, rape and psychological & emotional torture & have survived. #thread
We’ve been lied to & cheated, but we continue to clench our teeth, hold our rage & find opportunities to be happy, if only for brief moments.
All the while, begging (and demanding) this country to love us back, when we know deep down inside it’ll never love us the way we deserve to be loved.
We tell people, all the time, who are suffering in abusive relationships to just get out; to leave. And that’s always easier said than done for the victim because of their undying love and loyalty to this broken soul.
And so many of us have learned ways to theoretically “escape” this abusive vitriol by obtaining higher education, speaking properly, living in the right neighborhoods, tempering our vibrant personalities, and muting our Blackness.
But, just like that victim, each and every time we think that we can change someone’s evil doings with our own behavioral modifications, we are thrust into another abusive episode & reminded that there’s literally NOTHING we can do to escape the abuse. #AhmaudArbery
