A bit difficult to get past the hypocrisy in this statement given the lack of concern UK government had over the impact of Brexit on the Good Friday Agreement (all all Northern Ireland communities) last year
We are where we are and that is a treaty that commits Northern Ireland to follow EU rules with regards to goods - whether on entry or in market. As a technical exercise, handled sensitively, difficult but not impossible. Clumsily make it political and it is a nightmare.
Fail to reach a UK-EU trade deal and barriers to intra-UK trade involving Northern Ireland will be higher than if there is a deal. Something that our negotiating teams, MPs, and anti-EU cheerleaders would do well to keep in mind.
