#Ethereum 2.0 Phase 0 is set to go live this year. A survey of ~300 ETH holders by @ConsenSysCodefi aimed to determine the motivations and concerns of ETH holders who are considering (not) staking on the #Eth2 network. Conclusions, a thread:
Of 287 respondents, over 65% plan to stake on #Eth2. Half of those 65% plan to run their own validators, and the other half plan to use a third party staking provider. Additionally, 14.6% are undecided and only 2.8% do not plan to stake.
Of the 65% of respondents who plan to stake by running own validator or using 3rd party, both groups plan to stake ~50% of total ETH holdings. 63% of respondents own >32 ETH, & majority of people who will not stake own <32 ETH.
Staking rewards🏆:
Staking rewards are an important part of the #Eth2 incentive model. Those who plan to run their own validators expect avg. 5.8% rewards. Those who plan to use a 3rd party expect avg. 7.6%. Those who are undecided would need avg. 9.4% to convince them to stake.
The ~2% increase in rewards suggests that respondents planning on using a 3⃣ party may be factoring in anticipated fees. Undecided voters would need ⬆️ economic incentives to justify risk. 👀@ConsenSysCodefi #Eth2 calculator to determine potential 🏆: bit.ly/3bxAZVu
Preferences 💙:
For node management features, those running their own validators overwhelmingly prefer slashing protection and analytics & monitoring features to be provided.
For service features, those who plan to use a 3rd party also prefer slashing protection and analytics 🔢 & monitoring, but indicate a stronger preference for reward 🏆 compounding features and non-custodial fund management.
Ecosystem Trust 🤝:
Among all three segments (valditor, 3rd party, undecided), trust is highest for @coinbase, @binance, and @prylabs when considering the services they may offer for #Eth2 Staking.
Education👩‍🎓:
Critical to success of #Eth2 is info & education. <35% of respondents indicated “sound” understanding of Eth2 economics. Most aware segment = those who plan to run their own validators. The undecided & non-staking segments report least knowledge about Eth2 economics
