Hey #Calgary, I have to say I feel so worried for your many businesses & livelihoods disrupted at 10 o'clock last night when we all heard Mr. Kenney & the UCP changed their minds about your city's reopening. The Premier's 11th-hour decision is expensive. (Thread) 1/ #AbLeg #yyc

Fact is, the UCP and their Calgary MLAs would have known many days ago that #yyc virus numbers remain a concern. People warned about this, but it seems Mr. Kenney preferred a nice political story and he'll play games with the #Calgary economy and jobs to get it. #ableg 2/

Look, it's not a choice between "reopening" or "not re-opening." Mr. Kenney often posits this false &dishonest choice in his remarks. It's a question of reopening with a plan or without one. With no support for small biz in guidelines or PPE, no help with costs...#yyc #ableg 3/

And now a botched reopening for #Calgary businesses, it's clear the UCP has no economic plan for pandemic response. Mr. Kenney and his UCP MLAs are making a bad economic situation worse. #yyc #ableg 4/

These political decisions were made by Mr. Kenney in Edmonton, far away from any discussions with #yyc businesses, community leaders, or anyone else to whom his #Calgary UCP MLAs are accountable. #ableg 5/

Mr. Kenney should have been much more clear during his "relaunch" press conference some days ago. If he had, #Calgary businesses would not now be left holding the bag on thousands of dollars of inventory, not to mention disruption to so many jobs. #ableg #yyc 6/

This is the last thing #Calgary needs. The city has enough challenges with the downturn in the price of oil and the UCP canceling high-tech and other job programs that diversify the economy. But Mr. Kenney and his MLAs are taking the city for granted. #ableg #yyc 7/

Since last night, our NDP Opposition has heard a torrent of anger from #Calgary. Not at the reasons for the decision - people get that if the science doesn't support it, we don't move ahead with relaunch. But this was known by the UCP, yet they strung people along. 8/ #ableg

People in #Calgary are not interested in having their chain jerked by a Premier making political decisions about how we re-start their jobs and the economy. At a minimum, Mr. Kenney and his #yyc MLAs need to actually listen to people in Southern AB. 9/

Managing the pandemic response, including the health care resources and the support to businesses and workers, is a test of Mr. Kenney's economic management. So far, and especially in #Calgary, he has failed. #ableg #yyc 10/
