Why are children w/disabilities who are now home schooling going to lose their EA? Why are you creating 2tiers of education - one for kids w/out a need for an EA and a completely unsupported learning environment for those who do?

The education minister is writing off kids w/ disabilities. They won’t have an Assistant so their learning outcomes this year will not be supported as they should.
@AdrianaLaGrange is trying to save a buck off kids w/disabilities. During a pandemic.
I didn’t think @jkenney’s cabinet could distinguish itself w/ even more tone deaf actions.
But for writing off kids w/ disabilities, the Educ. Minister has proven there’s more than one member of Executive Council whose commitment to the public interest is questionable. #ableg

Jason Kenney's Advanced Ed Minister thinks a Holocaust denier should have been protected at the Uni of Lethbridge & shouldn't have been let go a few years ago. In fact, he thinks we need to change our policies to allow a holocaust denier a platform & a paycheque.

Background: The UCP want to impose a new so-called "free speech" standard at universities, even though we already have those rights in the Charter. Even so, the UCP are bringing in what's called the "Chicago Principles" for Alberta universities.
All of this sounds a bit academic, until the Minister was asked, on a radio show, what problem he was trying to solve with this initiative. And the answer he gave was the case of Tony Hall here at the University of Lethbridge.

I have concerns about this. We had a recent case at University of Lethbridge where we had a prof who held anti-Semitic views & published them, in addition to vicious conspiracy theories. This #ucp policy would likely give that prof another way to continue his hate speech. #ableg
The University was finally able to get rid of that prof, and I was grateful for that. It’s possible - actually, probable - that this #ucp policy would make it more difficult for the University to terminate someone who is publishing and teaching demonstrably anti-Semitic content.
We have hate speech laws in this country. We don’t need any confusion about this just so the #ucp can invite the incel army or the white supremacist hordes on to campuses across Alberta and give them free reign.

It was clear to me from day one that getting northern indigenous communities off-diesel had to be a priority of the Climate Leadership Plan.
Today, the largest off-grid solar and storage in Canada is now reality in Fort Chipewyan, with community ownership.
New economic initiatives, like renewables, clean tech and efficiency, are important in and of themselves if we think climate change is real and we want AB to be competitive and diversified.
But more than that, the new economy cannot - must not - replicate the social exclusions, inequalities or racism of the past. That is why our Climate Plan put such an emphasis on indigenous investments.

We have a new study forthcoming in Exceptional Children. We examine whether students of color are more or less likely to be identified as having #disabilities in U.S. states with histories of de jure and de facto racial #segregation. (1)
Special education has been theorized to have been used as an alternative legal strategy for schools to avoid racial integration. This prior work was historical and descriptive. Others have suggested that over-identification might be especially likely to occur in the South. (2)
Yet other work suggests that students of color may be under-identified as having disabilities in the U.S. South, incl. due to political and economic factors. Mechanisms hypothesized to result in under-identification nationally may also be operating similarly in the South. (3)
