X : No I don't. I know what I'm doing.
Me : No, I don't mean in that sense. I mean it in the sense that you're an imposter. You haven't got a clue what you're doing. That's ok though, it's quite common.
Me :, That's why it's a syndrome. You're not trying to deceive others, you just lack the capability to do wha you are supposed to be doing. Don't worry, it's very common.
X : A Napoleon complex?
Me : No, not that. And you're not Napoleon either.
Me : No, but this constant comparison to great historical leaders is definitely pointing in the right direction.
X : Well, I wouldn't have this position if I wasn't capable.
Me : Are the ideas of a meritocracy where you've earned the right.
X : Yes
Me : Hmmm.
Me : No. You wouldn't listen to someone like me. You're already working out in your mind why I am wrong. Your mental armour is impenetrable.
X : Iron man?
Me : Ah, thank you ... yes. Psychopath. That's what I was looking for.
Me : A lot of execs seem to have those sorts of qualities - impaired empathy, lack of remorse, egotistical traits, complete belief in self etc.
X : So, it's a necessity for the job?
Me : It's not a badge of honour.
Me : Yes but your organisation has the characteristics of an abuse survivor - low self esteem, stress disorders, blames itself for failing to execute your plans.
X : They lack capabilities.
Me : Well, someone is lacking capability.
