From a care home manager: “What a lot of rubbish. I didn’t get any support until March 23rd and they were just feeble emails. Then the local authority got their act together 2nd week in April. And the advice is still conflicting even today from CQC, CCG and PHE.”
This is an odd defence from govt. Absolutely fair to say that this has been an unprecedented situation. Absolutely fair to say other countries' care homes deeply affected too. Absolutely fair to say fast moving situ and hinsight 20/20...
but there's a tension in saying that in one breath and then saying protective shield had been in place from the start and care homes had all the resources they needed. Because anyone who has spent time talking to cares in last two months knows that hasn't always been the case
And indeed, in many cases, it still isn't.
There are also lots of gaps still in this ring which are today still causing transmission in care homes and outside. Notably- a lack of sick pay:
