Here is a summary thread of today’s #COVID19AB update. 5,317 Albertans have recovered leaving 1,073 active cases in the province. 62 people are hospitalized with nine of those admitted to ICUs. In the last 24 hours, out of 4,505 new test results there were 58 new cases. (1/12)
Early results from asymptomatic testing in Calgary identified 50 cases who reported having no symptoms. At this time, we do not have information on how many of these are close contacts of confirmed cases & how many have no known exposure. (2/12)
It seems from this early information that the asymptomatic testing is helping us identify additional cases. As we do further evaluation on possible locations of exposure, I will share more information. (3/12)
I’m sad to report 4 additional deaths in Calgary Zone. All were in continuing care facilities. This brings the total number of deaths in Alberta to 125. Let us remember this virus still poses a risk, particularly to the elderly & people with chronic medical conditions. (4/12)
Businesses & locations that are reopening now have 14 days from the time they open to fill out the relaunch template found online at alberta.ca/biz-connect.as…. This template must be posted on site or online following completion. (5/12)
Businesses that have remained open throughout #COVID19AB can complete the relaunch template voluntarily. For those that wish to complete & post, it can serve as additional reassurance to employees & patrons of things you are doing to prevent the spread of infection. (6/12)
Effective today, outdoor gathering limits are being increased to a maximum of 50 people no matter where you live.

People from different households MUST:
✅Maintain physical distance of at least 2 metres
✅Follow proper hygiene practices
❌Not share food or drinks (7/12)
As we start to ease certain restrictions, it is increasingly important that we all continue to take proper precautions to prevent the spread #COVID19AB including frequent hand-washing & always staying home whenever you feel ill. (8/12)
Please use best judgment when determining whether a gathering can go ahead. Hold off on any gathering if you are uncertain you can follow public health orders and guidelines. Indoor gatherings must still be limited to fewer than 15 people. (9/12)
I want to congratulate the graduating class of 2020. Graduating is a major milestone & an achievement worth celebrating. This year’s graduates have found creative ways to adapt to our new reality while working hard to complete their studies & to celebrate grad season. (10/12)
After the long weekend, I will start to provide my updates on a reduced schedule. I remain committed to transparency & while the number of availabilities may decrease, I will continue to provide the information you rely on. (11/12)
Next week, updates will be held on Tuesday & Thursday. The following week, updates will be Monday, Wednesday & Friday. If needed, we will schedule additional updates to share information with you. Case information will continue to be posted online daily. (12/12)
