Apparently we're going to tell the EU they have to change their negotiating mandate, but have given short shrift to suggestions from the EU we have to change approach. No contradiction there I'm sure... 
The government may be on to something with this suggestion though, that the EU should treat this like the change to the backstop last year, in which as we recall the EU got what they want while allowing the UK government to think they'd won a major victory
Indeed, how many times are we going to 'threaten' the EU that they have to change or else? Has worked so well so far... meanwhile a global crisis has erupted, but still we insist nothing has changed...
