🤷‍♀️What are Smart Local Energy Systems?

🤷‍♂️Do they need a Code of Practice (CoP) to thrive?

We take a close look at how other parts of the #energy system use a CoP to improve best practice standards:

Below is a thread with some key takeaways👇
1⃣ Codes of Practice (COP) help to identify opportunities to improve best practice and identify shared risks.

⚡This brings clear benefits as it acts to protect customers and improves investor confidence in the wider #energy sector.

2⃣ We found that the breadth of industry support gained is a key indicator of a successful COP.

✔️For example, the CoP covering #HeatNetworks - which worked hard to gain wider sector support - has been highly effective and had an especially big impact on procurement.
3⃣ Another example of the #HeatNetworks CoP’s success has been it's clear influence on the Government’s forthcoming statutory regulation for #heatnetworks 🖧.

In so doing, the heat networks CoP exemplifies the process - see below:
4⃣ Given where Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES) are in development, now may NOT be the right time to develop a CoP.

Partly because of the wide variation in many aspects of SLES, such as the technologies used, services offered, and customers served - see below:
5⃣ But now is the time for Smart Local Energy System projects to be sharing best practice and developing guidance which will one day lead to a CoP.
